RFK Jr. is speaking to a specific slice of parents (mostly) who believe their autistic child is not like the autistic people who, for example, post on this app. Those parents are committed to a diagnosis of "profound" autism. They are wrong. Please read this from me and @juststimming.bsky.social
Dividing Up the Autism Spectrum Will Not End the Way You Think
The Lancet’s proposal to create a new label of “profound autism” serves only to distract us from the work of ensuring that all autistic people have everything they need to thrive.

RFK Jr.'s disinfo harms autistics: "The false idea that autism is caused by an 'injury,' by something external going wrong, makes people more afraid of autism and of autistics. So does the idea that it is better for a child to die of a vaccine-preventable disease than to live as an autistic person."

Mike drop.
That's when we talk about "gifted kids."

Why is it okay to use identity-first language when talking about gifted students but only use person-first when talking about disabilities?

Because our language conveys our values and what we accept. It sends a message about what we believe. (3/3) #EduSky

We waste the resource of our special educators if their role is mostly helping with assignments. Their expertise reaches so much farther when they have a role in co-designing instruction. That takes #EdLeaders planning the time for this. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #InclusiveEd #UDL #EduSkyChat #UDLchat
