They're valuable because they provide critical analytical skills, and (should) instil a passion for learning new concepts that stays with you for the rest of your life.

I do think some sort of vocational model is needed in parallel for people that want to take that route, but academic degrees aren't valuable because they open up employment opportunities.

Without valuing continuous education as an intrinsic good, without considering what kind of job x or y degree would bring to a graduate, we will never actually have a funding model that benefits students and staff.

I thought Zack did well to hold his own against an extremely hostile panel, but you could see the audience go from enthusiastic support to more subdued support the more unfounded shit that was thrown at him. A clear reminder of what we're up against with the British establishment media class.

Every so often I'll forget why I never watch Question Time, and when I do I'm smacked in the face with the reason. An hour of right-wing talking points being shouted about ad nauseam for an hour.

Not suggesting it is done deliberately, but it does feel like a form of gerrymandering.

Perhaps, they should try to legislate to hold a vote on whether that power should be transferred to the Scottish Parliament.

Honestly, I don't know what the best strategy would be to secure another ref. I think it is extremely undemocratic that the UK government has to grant the right to hold another, but that's the position we're in. But, surely if there is another SNP govt after 2026 it is hard to continue to deny it.

Considering how hard getting an out right majority is in the Scottish election system, this feels like a sure fire way of not securing another referendum.
