Be the person who is horrified at ICE, not the person who is horrified that people are shocked by ICE

The kind of people who are horrified at what is happening here and find it deeply un-American are, maybe counterintuitively, the kind of people who are MORE likely than average to know and remember historic abuses. It is their determination to rise above them that gives them moral strength!

Fourteen, fifteen wars... some say even twenty.

So, would you prefer "Europe" (as if it was a single unit) starting a shooting war with US, while dealing with hot Ukraine war on another front? Or a crippling trade war?

The way out of this crisis is impeachment in US, but this smarmy weasel prefers to give patronizing lectures to everyone else.

Not to get all stentorian, but both my grandfathers served in WW2, and one of them died from its lingering sting decades later (chronic injuries). An ocean of fucking blood shed, the highest price imaginable paid to create a world where this shit didn’t happen, undone for *nothing*. Fuck you!

What is the point of coverage like this? Everyone involved — the writer, the editor, the readers — knows the answer to the question posed in the headline. Yet the story acts as if all this is an un-knowable conundrum rather than an obvious emergency for democracy.

"Why don't these other countries restrain this rabid dog we keep letting loose on them?"

He can start trade wars or shooting wars with other countries with all US might. No wonder it's hard to resist.

A minibus full of GOP senators could stop this all in an instant, yet they do absolutely nothing.

I prefer our (European) diplomats use whatever methods work for our interests, even if they don't offer such gratification as public insulting or other ways to "show a little backbone".

Now, if kissing ass isn't working anymore, then lets switch to another method, and I see they're doing just that.

Is this weasel commenting on EU approach, or US Congress approach to Trump?

I mean, EU has very limited means to tackle the problem, if we count out trade wars and actual wars.

US Congress has very robust set of tools to remove Trump from power, but they're folding like lawn chairs over there.

Also like, from their perspective, why tf aren't we "ending" him right now?? It's a very real betrayal of our allies not to act to prevent this. They're justified in feeling like the domestic opposition is kind of using them for our own ends

There's not even need for any actual negotiations, just ask if this or that would be ok, and get automatic 'ok sure' for answer. There's no 'national security' reason.

Trump just wants to be a great conqueror king, who enlarged US land area a lot. That's the point.

It's not that simple. House bootstrapping process doesn't just magically happen. If enough people are willing play dirty after tight elections, it's not implausible that the process will be tested in some way. For example, remember those 2020 fraudulent certificates of battleground states.
