bringing back a classic

an adaptation of the sandy loam chart, aka, a triangle where each side is an axis from 0 100, forming triangular little pockets in the center in a pseudo-3-axis chart form. the three axes are "hoinky sploinky" "doinky woinky" and "rinky dinky," each with a "pure" form (penis music, furret walk, and ukelele covers respectively). there is a minor screed here about electroswing sucking, which it does.

the idle thought is this: can you do a mst in a prolly like way

like "here's my list" until it's too big, then split out the leading 0 hashes into a root node, and put the rest into chunks underneath

but yeah, prolly trees are the best choice for "here's a large binary blob, chunk it up for transfer" hands down, as the update is always all at once

and yeah with offsets in the tree, you could do range queries

but for directories, there's more update in place and no need to approximate chunks

answer: key size is bounded and subdivided into n-bit nibbles for leading 0 count

in theory you could have slightly dysfunctional trees with extra levels, but with a strong enough hash function it's hard to create 'collisions' and (very) computationally expensive
