Wondering where we are on the spectrum of Idiocracy, 1930s Germany, and the end of the world, while hoping it's not too late to reverse this.
If we do go that direct, our last remaining hope will be that the military remember that their oath is to the constitution, not Trump, and refuse to attack their own country.

Honestly, if it comes to that, and the sane among us can't regain control with our voices and sheer numbers, then this country has already been lost.

I agree with the hesitancy to consider AI generated images "art", AI involved in parts of the process - as a tool (e.g. to generate visual effects for a film), or as commentary on AI itself, maybe. But an AI generated image without further human context seems cheap and fake.

There's an older format version at the bottom of the officer page, but's also here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...

Of course, there's also what takes precedence if a "Presidential" order is in violation of the UCMJ or other regulation - is that call an enlisted as well as officer responsibility

Actually, enlisted do swear to obey the president, but officers' oath is to the constitution only: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...

That said, I hope the officers are up on the law and do the right thing if their units are asked to do something illegal and not just stand around/pick up trash/etc.

Except it's not the soldiers' fault, and I would assume most of them are not fascists, but rather normal people who wanted money for college and to be able to help their communities.

That said, all US military need to be reminded that their oath is to the constitution, not the orange turd.

From this week's tweets it's looking like 25th amendment territory, though I'd love to see the orange turd held responsible for his crimes. Question is, if Democrats (or anyone sane) can regain control of Congress, has Vance also committed an impeachable offense?

There should be a "layoff" tax on corporate profits for large corps: Layoffs beyond some threshold lead to a tax rate increase - if the corporation is struggling then there are minimal profits to tax, but layoffs for short term numbers gain would just yield bad press with minimal to no return.

People on this platform (and supposedly Twitter) speculating about the President's health and supposed lack of recent public appearances.

That, and yesterday's rain that never made an appearance in my neck of the woods.

A year ago I would have thought that that headline came from The Onion.

iirc, the idea was never to tax annual gains to unsold long term investments - but rather limit the ability to barrow against unrealized capital gains in order to use the money w/o paying the taxes owed upon asset sale (w/ thresholds to allow things like home equity loans for the typical homeowner).

Let's find a solution better than masks - they're gross and drive us further apart by interfering with basic human interaction. Why not focus on higher tech solutions like indoor air filtration/sanitization, or vaccine rates. Plus better sick leave so no one is forced to work sick and spread it.

Problem is, learning about our nation's history of standing up against injustice and fighting for one's right to live in peace free from harassment and discrimination might inspire a few more people to stand up against Trump and our current crop of injustice.
