I'll suggest that Trotman no longer wanted to spend so much time on the road, which the cited article implies. It could (i.e., "could") have been much the same w/Ferreira

Statement sent to The Athletic: 'Upon reviewing the incident, the ATP Officiating has determined that the “Best Efforts” code violation was issued in error. This was communicated to Medvedev and his team following the match, and no fine will be imposed.'

The impressive thing about Zverev's saving break point at ad out, 3/3, is that he came in *again* after blowing a volley on the preceding deuce point. Less than a sea change of playing style, but returning to a less-than-favorite tactic after a miss is a sign of truly making adjustments in his play

I really don't mean to be a nattering nabob of negativity, but it's *so* frustrating

Fascinating storyline behind Medvedev vs Zverev, two players challenged to rework their games. So I go to the China Open's site to see some stats (esp AZ's winning % at the net so far), and there are no live scores available, let alone stats. And tennis wonders what it needs to do to get more fans?
tennis-skip1515.bsky.social
I'm also willing to admit I'm very likely a chorus of one, or at least shouting into the wind.

Yes, I realize that's the target now. Not to be an alta kacker (suggest looking that up), but imo that bizz target is mirage-like. Or it is if tennis is to retain any individuality. Branding Davis Cup/BJK Cup "The World Cup of Tennis" is such a fail; tennis defined by what other sports are?
tennis-skip1515.bsky.social
With USOpen tix at $250 for grounds passes (as an example) how do kids get to see pro tennis and be inspired, let alone adults? As I noted, the schedule is ridiculous, but I worry that discounting the fall events (esp) totally would leave live tennis even more of a thing for a relatively small group
tennis-skip1515.bsky.social
Thx for the reply. My point, badly made, is that local excitement is locally shared (prob wider than literally "locally" but you get the idea). Yes, that excitement doesn't get transmitted widely; a fault of tennis *and* a focus on bigness of news/events. 1/2
tennis-skip1515.bsky.social
Yet, are we ignoring more local excitement at fall events? Okay: the Asian swing doesn't seem to get big crowds but other tourneys do. Davis Cup brings tennis to smaller markets and the crowds are def excited. Are we losing something by focusing only on the macro, broadcast-driven picture? 2/2

Tennis thinks it has outgrown die-hard fans. Then what are they doing w/ THE third act made for them? Why sitting on its storytelling despite traveling to fascinating places w/ some of best sports stars in the world? Is it also because it’s way too packed?

Is The Third Act Still Delivering?
Tennis thinks it has outgrown its die-hard fans. Then what do they think they're doing with a third act (THE third act) basically made for them? I'm wondering!

Okay, up front: the pro tennis schedule is a mess. Full stop.

I appreciate the point in Bouchard's substack post: this "third act" doesn't deliver the broad excitement (note: "broad") that the tours do up until the USOpen. 1/2

If #tennis needs anything it's leadership that better understands how to promote the game, along with all the reasons why it's special and different than other major sports

I've long maintained that #theresnothinglikeDavisCup and I stood by that thru the Kosmos debacle. Proof: super competitive matches w/outstanding tennis and uber engaged spectators. Do we really think #tennis needs something more than this? from @stevetignor.bsky.social www.tennis.com/news/article...

I've no idea why David Hagerty & the ITF thought Kosmos' dismantling of home/away ties for #DavisCup was a good idea, but at least the format's returned @ qualifications. How many young/children got to see pro tennis this wknd w/this format? Full stadiums all over, fab atmospheres #justgreat

The psychological value of a quick and easy hold is just huge
tennis-skip1515.bsky.social
Really, if Sinner had hit his approach deeper Alcaraz would have had a tougher pass, and Sinner could well have had an easier volley

Lobs. I rest my case. [Carefully picking examples that prove your point is very important : ) ]
