I was opposed to what happened at WVU. I spoke out against itin the media before it became a national story. I organized for the union, which was a major locus of opposition. I voted with most of my colleagues against the president and the cuts

As for the textbook chronically online inflammatory bullshit of claiming that I must be a fascist who wants my colleagues or anyone else to lose their jobs because I'm criticizing you from the left, I'll leave it to anyone else to parse as they wish. You are the media expert after all.

That's not how it works -- that's how it should work. People should think for themselves instead of taking orders from the moneyed and propertied.

Rankings are toxic and we should not -- ever -- just do what Harvard does, because Harvard is about inequality and hereditary privilege. When academics start thinking for themselves instead of letting the ultra wealthy think for them we will earn back the public's trust. Until then, decline

I don't think of people as awful, but it's not hard to find reports of Silicon Valley execs telling a group of eager college students that they must work every waking minute if they want to build a successful company.

That's the subtext. Also: the messengers here bragging about how much they work are sometimes / often full of shit

Stop the madness. Slow the fuck down. Cooperation >> competition. Goes for any endeavor: you don't have to be "better" to reap the benefits, you just have to actually love people and want to help them in collective solidarity, instead of wanting to beat them at some fucking game.

What they are crushing along with their competitors is their own well-being, and that of their colleagues, and that of the planet as a whole.
