Happy New Year!

I started my year harvesting produce from our garden in the drizzling rain.

Somehow the tomato plants are still producing (though not fully ripening), and two of our pepper plants are still going strong, with dozens more peppers on the plants.

for anyone setting goals for the year, it might be helpful for you to break your goal down into what your daily commitments can look like

for example:

I want to read 50 books this year, so I’m setting aside 1 hour out of my day every day to read

for me, this feels a lot more achievable

People give me shit for being nihilistic sometimes but tell me why I should have a positive viewpoint of the future world when we, collectively, are morons.

Exhibit A: We know AI is wrong and have proven it and yet we continue to use it for important shit like trials.

(AI in this case means LLMs)

Really going to utilize #booksky more. Yes, some of it will be for personal reasons, but its just a cool part of the internet. One that makes me happy.

Read more books. Write more books.

Books.

Personally I just really love reading.

But I also adore libraries so go to your library this new year. They have all the books, you can request books and they nearly all have a online service for e books these days. #Libraries2026

Aaaand my favorite book I read this year was Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë!

I feel a bit behind reading through a lot of classics for the first time at 35, but this one really surprised me. I thought it would feel outdated and slow but that wasn’t the case for me at all. Wish I had read it sooner!

I mentioned in my last post writing detention writing programmes but sometimes people find their own way.

This is in 'An Arbitrary Light Bulb' and was inspired by someone I worked with in a Liverpool drugs and homeless project.

a neat (and scary) survey into AI "companions" and kids www.aura.com/reports/stat...

for companionship, and when they do, the themes of discussion are primarily sexual, romantic, and violent."

Quality of life in rural/small town America is vastly higher because of urbanist growth than it would otherwise be. And they will never ever forgive us for that.
I don’t always agree with of the broader political takes from some “abundance”-coded pundits but man the abundance critics are just pure nonsense merchants

like, what’s this guy’s deal? literally making up a guy to dunk on the idea that cities should build more housing and transit.

Person B has zero criminal history ever

Newspaper says Person A may’ve been a pedophile rapist and covered it up — so Person A accuses Person B of treason

Gosh how do we decide whom to believe? 🤔
