I have held many friendships over generations within my life, aided by the adults who have been my friends since i was learning to walk, who repeatedly showcased healthy inter-generational friendships - and have given me the ability to do the same.

I commend them to you all.

Besides which, our children and young people are increasingly frustrated by the state of our country and the world. If we aren't their friends, we are less able to listen to their desires for the future and help shape it as the adults in their lives.

BUT - showcasing healthy relationships between adults and children allows for the children to recognise unhealthy ones and talk to a trusted adult about it.
We don't protect our children by keeping them in an age-based bubble.

I hold an unpopular opinion here, that children and adults who aren't their family can be friends. I believe in age-appropriate friendships. There are obviously things you don't talk to kids about, just like there are things you might avoid when talking to your grandad
