We need leaders not in love with money but in love with justice. Not in love with publicity but in love with humanity. Leaders who can subject their particular egos to the pressing urgencies of the great cause of freedom … a time like this demands great leaders.

▪︎ Sonya Sharp voted against CPS' budget adjustments for the 2024 fiscal plan in November 2023, which inter alia accommodated 50 incremental police officers from the province.
▪︎ Dan McLean supported the removal of automated traffic enforcement (ATE, photo radar).

Yes, this! 💥 Thank you @aradwanski.bsky.social. As someone who used to sit down the hall from 75 years (or more in cases) of provincially funded research on EOR and CCUS often in partnership with NRCan, ECCC, NRC and others for which energy companies now entirely directly benefit... sigh.

I hate to keep picking on The Hub, but there is such a bizarre, mythologized version of Alberta’s oil history as purely free-market triumph at play here - omitting everything from AOSTRA to to TMX, with lots in between (and even before). thehub.ca/2025/10/07/r...

In which Dan McLean answers the question badly and lies... he should have added, "even from my golf cart!"
When was the last time you participated in a city council meeting in person?

I've attended all Council meetings.

My colleague @drkristopherwells.bsky.social rose in the Senate today, to support my motion, asking the government to investigate the creation of a made-in-Canada verified traveller program for domestic frequent flyers - one not vulnerable to US anti-trans bigotry #SenateofCanada #cdnpoli #NEXUS

Really happy to see local Inglewood students using the @calgary.ca Inglewood Aquatic Centre (aka the pool) for their extracurricular activity today while the Alberta teachers' strike is on. Pool opened back up on October 1 after being closed for repairs, just in time. 🏊🏾‍♀️

House arrest & 2½ weeks of community service.

Lich should do her community service (100 hrs) monitoring, documenting & reporting on hate groups for the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, @antihate.ca. Then she should work at an immunization clinic & host a citizenship ceremony.

The coolest events happen on a quiet Monday evening in Calgary. Thanks for a lovely event Chamber Fest West. 🎶🎹🎻🎵

(And the encore of Aaron Copeland's "Hoe-down" from the ballet "Rodeo", at the Top of the Bow in Cowtown was equal parts cheeky and perfection.)

Just returned from an appointment at the Cancer Centre in Calgary. Picked up a new book: "Breast Cancer and You" by the Canadian Breast Cancer Network. Published in 2022, the copies seem to have finally hit Calgary. Representation on the cover, and inside. I wish I had this book in 2017. Bravo!

Hmm. So Markus Chambers didn't notice people that look like him that were dying at the hands of police in Canada before May 2020? Sigh.

My friends, many at IOL, have asked me for my roster of employment lawyers. (I have had many jobs, so I know many employment lawyers.) It’s one of the saddest referrals I've sent in days. My wishes of "good luck" were hollow knowing the tough job market for an engineer with 25 - 30 years experience.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal from Ghislaine Maxwell, a former girlfriend and associate of Jeffrey Epstein. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison term.

A jury in Manhattan federal court convicted Maxwell in 2021 on charges that included sex trafficking a teenage girl.

This would make for an interesting twist. Call a snap election with: a looming scandal over political interference & corruption in healthcare, the largest teachers' strike in the history of the province, and an imaginary pipeline deal fading into thin air all becoming election issues? Doubtful.

Prediction: Alberta Premier Danielle Smith will call an early election before she allows a referendum to proceed to a vote with the wording promoted by former Progressive Conservative deputy premier Thomas Lukaszuk’s Forever Canadian petition.

The year 2025 is shaping up to be the year of labour. Postal workers, flight attendants, teachers.

So the passport office is firing racialized staff and anyone they think is expensive because they require an accommodation? This will not end well. Litigation in 3...2...1

One of the signs at the rally yesterday said something like: "if only students were a pipeline..."

This Alberta government will struggle to resolve this strike and to negotiate with teachers because teachers hold entirely different values than the government: kindness, inclusion, and integrity.

So I'm watching "BRIAN AND MAGGIE (2025)" on the TV and as someone who had a weekly standing appointment at the hair salon (pre-cancer) all I can think about in episode 1 is: how often did Margaret Thatcher have her hair done? Every 3 days is the answer. Wild.

Finally bought myself a proper mastectomy bra as I prepare for my fifth breast surgery later this year (1 breast surgery removed two tumours + lymph nodes; 3 reconstruction surgeries; 4th imminent). I've been using zip front sports bras up to now. One bra = $165.89. Cancer is expensive.

The AB teachers rally in Calgary today, at McDougall Centre

I tried to get pics up close but it was way too packed to get a good spot. Biggest rally at McDougall I've ever seen.

#Alberta #abpoli #AlbertaTeachers
A lot of people standing outside of McDougall Centre, a provincial government office and meeting space. They're holding signs and most people are dressed in red.
