WIP drawing :) I think fungus gnats are kind of cute so I wanted to draw one. Sciara hemerobioides with a box of flowers- since there's a lot of photos of them on flowers on inaturalist.

Don't think I've ever posted this here- drawing I did of a personal character who's a female tawny mining bee, Andrena fulva. This species also happens to be my favourite insect species so I had to make a character based off it!!

Not much out at this time of year over here unfortunately- it's too cold for a lot of species. Today was a warmer day so I did find some ladybirds at least.

Adalia bipunctata and Harmonia axyridis. :)

Hover fly on a small plant I saw today, something from the genus Syrphus is my best guess. It was rather still and unresponsive but didn't seem to be dead.

That is still a ladybug lol. Anything in the beetle family Coccinellidae is a ladybug and there are thousands of them. Images like the one you posted are extremely misinforming, other species of ladybug will also bite and the smelly liquid they secrete is a common defence mechanism among ladybugs.
The classification for Harmonia axyridis, the Asian lady beetle also known as the Harelquin ladybird.

Went to the annual AES entomology fair today, it was awesome. I got myself a bunch of books, mainly identification keys and some other stuff. I highly recommend going at least once here.

A marble oak gall getting swarmed by chalcid wasps, possibly Torymus sp. Some of them are already attempting to lay eggs in the gall. :)

Bought some books from a local second-hand bookstore today.
Really happy with both of them, they're very useful for identifying native bees.

Male and female pair of Oedemera nobilis, the thick legged flower beetle.
Males are easily recognised by their enlarged thighs on their hind legs. Females lack this feature.

They're very common during warmer months over here and I usually find them on flowers.

Greater bee fly, Bombylius major, from last year. I can't wait for these guys to emerge in my area, they usually come out around this time of year :]
A greater bee fly perched on a hand. It is a small fluffy fly with two wings. Both wings have a dark patch on them. The fly has a long needle like mouth part and it is cleaning itself. This species is harmless to humans despite how the mouthparts look.
