This draft is admittedly getting away from me. I may have to return to the...*gags*...outline.

It's been a while since I posted here. I'm mostly focused on writing and work these days but I want to make this very clear.
Fuck ICE. Fuck Donald Trump. And fuck every single fascist piece of shit behind them.

My biggest struggle as a writer is "seeing" the story I want to write in my head, and constantly running up against the ceiling of what I am capable of writing. Practice brings me closer and closer, but I wonder if I'll ever truly reach my own standard.

I'd be nowhere without my writing group. Their critical analysis is the good stuff directly in my veins. 🤣

Just counted and realized I have 2 completed writing projects and 10 unfinished ones. That's quite skewed. 😅
How many projects are you juggling? Am I alone in this? 👀

I got to see the Superman movie and I have to say that I absolutely loved it! 🥳
Superman has been my favorite superhero since I was a kid, and James Gunn nailed it. 🙏

Every time I write, something comes up in my prose that I know is from the influence my writing group has had on me. It's a consistent reminder that I wouldn't be the writer I am today without them. 😊
We all need community, so I hope you've found yours. 📖💞

I've gotten back into listening to Jazz while writing lately. An interesting choice to pair with my high fantasy WIP with magical pirates and bear people, imo.
What's the most unexpected music that gets your writing brain flowing?

Managed to get about two thousand words into the fantasy WIP today. Finally getting into a bit of the action! ⚔️

Funny paradox of being a writer:
To write good dialogue, one needs to learn how to use dialogue tags. To make better dialogue one must learn where NOT to use dialogue tags.

After editing a chapter with feedback from my writing group, it continuous to astound me how much a few notes & suggestions from others can do to really elevate an idea you weren't quite nailing on your own. 😊

This is a very bad decision. I know folks that have had their work scraped against their will to train AI, it is far from "fair".
Using in-copyright books for AI training is fair use, a California judge rules (but the case can go to trial because Anthropic used _pirated_ books. Wut?). Writing is on the wall, I think--it'll take time but AI companies will get their way on fair use www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

None of my usual music is fueling the writing lately.🫤 I should probably change things up.
What sort of stuff do you listen to while drafting? 👀

How important are connected themes in a trilogy? This is the question I've been asking myself lately. As I write/plan out my current series, I realize I have a lot of character development/arcs, but over-arching themes are lacking.
What am I trying to 'say'??

TFW you can't decide which character is going to die in Book 3.
There are a few options, but which character am I okay not writing ever again? Now that is a good question...

Gonna attempt to get back into Voice Acting. Been a good while since I was in those trenches, but I've been feeling confident about my voice again after having taken a step back.

A strategy I have for maintaining progress in a WIP that I'm burnt on is writing "concept" scenes. Moments I haven't reached yet but crave writing. They can change once reached in the draft but it helps drive creativity during down time.
What do you do to keep up progress?

No one warns about the part of writing where you draw on your own experiences. I've been piecing together a scene where one character finally gets my protag to feel her own grief, to let it out. Pulling a lot from my own experience, one memory in particular...& it's tough.

Writing a middle sequel is interesting. You have things to follow-up from the first book and still need to set up the third. All while somewhere in there you need something unique to the middle entry. Sounds simple and yet... Lol!

Submitted my chapter to a shared novel that my writing group is making together. 📖
Some of the most fun I've had writing. I'm not personally invested in the concept, so I was comfortable just feeling myself while I wrote. Came out great and I can't wait to see the full results! 👀

I know the narrative is that Tolkien would've hated Jackson's adaptation. While I get him despising aspects, I would hope he'd have the wisdom to appreciate & enjoy the passion that was in their creation. They're genuinely great films, even if they aren't exactly like the books.
Just a thought.

As time has gone on, I don't write flashy battles anymore. I am a fantasy writer, so big battles DO happen, but it's not about godly displays of power. It's about characters driving the story, not big kabooms.
Not sure when that happened. Does that mean I'm growing? lol!
