Let me tell you, as an editor, why I think old-fashioned coverage like this and of the NewsGuild webinar the other day are so important. It's just basic "here's what's happening" informative coverage (with our own accessibility twist, of course).

My undergraduate thesis attempted to do what this fantastic tool now has created beautifully — understanding how and when media, across the ideological spectrum, covers trans communities. It's so important, especially now, as reporters and editors to examine how we're reporting on trans folks.

Let me tell you my favorite thing about this article. It is such a data vis news story. I mean, yes, it's a trans news story. But, when you read the article, you see data vis journalism people get excited that @bethmccowen.bsky.social is asking about the tool itself. I love this. Nerd on, friends.

Journalists, are you paying attention?
Ooof. People don't trust the news, according the Economist/YouGov poll.

Doesn't change by age, race, party affiliation, politics, or who you voted for in 2024.

What do the movie "The Princess Bride" and the word "accessibility" have in common?

Journalists keep using that word. We do think it means what they think it means.

Don't let us down! You can become a patron right on our site for as little as $2.99 a month.
Here's the sad reality. @equalaccesspublicmedia.org just paid this month's freelance bill for @the-word.news. Without a miracle, without an angel donor, without something happening quickly, by the end of the December 15, we're out of money.
