Insert mode being something you switch to to make changes instead of the default, makes "writing code" a small part of building software, instead of the primary activity. Which is a mindset you inevitably reach after coding long enough anyways.

Then again - modern startup culture seems to be focused on building startups and getting acquired rather than owning and running it like a small business.
