One of my sadder memories from the U.S. was attending a union meeting and finally realising that many of my fellow stewards didn't see me or others like me as human like them. and that there were no words I could use to change that.

It was very weird.

Also I don't think we should have any discussions *about* immigration before we come to an agreement that we are human beings. Not economic units, not enemy combatants - people.

The pro-natalist thing is pretty firmly rooted in racism and xenophobia. Anti-immigration sentiment.

You are doing a service to it if you try to remove that component and debate its merits in isolation.

There’s lot of Covid going around at the moment, again. I don’t qualify for NHS jabs, which are now very restricted, but I just paid £90 for one at my local pharmacy. As a freelancer, that’s a lot less expensive than having to take a week or two off if I get ill, let alone risking long term issues.

Migration is hard, even on the relatively easy setting (which is how I've made my moves). IMO, it carries an obligation to other migrants - preferably to help others, but at least not to burn their bridges.

Also, resistance takes many forms. Removing your labour and resources is one of them

When this is all over, and it comes out that he is/was indeed addled and advisors were feeding him lies and ai... it's vital we don't let anyone use that information to absolve him of any responsibility for every horrific act the admin is doing.

Before Covid, I used to get 2-3 colds a year, and each time I'd spend the next 3-6 weeks hacking up a lung. It wasn't fun.

Since I started wearing a respirator consistently, it's not just Covid that I don't catch.

1. I've had a surprising number of conversations about Covid-19 over the past week or so, all sparked by the fact that I was, as always, wearing an FFP2 respirator. People in healthcare facilities, taxi drivers, people on trains and buses.

It interested me, 'cos I think she's fairly level-headed, and both the cascading variety and the mixed variety of collapse have happened elsewhere. And I'm not really a proponent of U.S. exceptionalism: it's part of how they got in this mess.

These are spectacularly ignorant comments by Lam regarding people seeking asylum. For one thing, they massively ignore that most refugees remain in their region of origin. Most refugees aren't hopping on a flight to the UK, and most wouldn't even if they could.
