Television has gotta be the reason. By the late 1950s way more people had a television in their home and by 1960 pretty much everyone could get a visual image of what America was "supposed" to look like.

The TVs are FAR cheaper than what they used to be. Video games have been the "same price" for 30 years absolutely= cheaper. I remember people BITCHING when game companies raised prices to $70 a pop a few years ago. N64 was selling games for those prices and people bought them!
