If combat happens and the wear and tear on the ship is significant, you can revise the useful life estimate downward (the opposite of what happens with an overhaul/upgrade, where it goes upward). That's not unusual with machinery. All depreciation is estimation - you just need a reasonable basis.

All useful life numbers are estimates for depreciation purposes - they just have to be reasonable (IE the carrier is probably going to last 40-50 years in service). Plus you can keep on using it after it's fully depreciated even if you don't overhaul it, and just record operating costs.

They should deepfake/CGI in Obama to replace him in that. That would piss off Trump like nothing else.

It really wouldn't be unprecedented for a charismatic pastoralist leader to conquer a region quickly and suddenly (especially since it's not that big of an area), and then not have it survive as a unified polity after his son dies.

There's also a big debate over whether Israel (the larger northern Kingdom) and Judah (the smaller southern Kingdom centered on Jerusalem) were ever a single unified monarchy. Evidence might be swinging back towards "yes", but it's still debated.

One of the weirder things from archaeology in the Near East is that there's really nothing to the whole "Hebrews came out of the desert and conquered Canaan" thing. Instead, there's a ton of continuity - including people of mixed Egyptian-Hebrew heritage in the region proper.

I think because they want the Deliverance from Egypt to be the story, and having it continue into "What's Next?" doesn't really fit with it. Especially since it's anti-climactic (they screw up and get stuck in the desert for 40 years).

Sorry, "number of miles" is only for the Abrams.
December 20, 2025 at 1:12 AM
Both of them have a per unit contract price and (probably) an estimate of both useful life and number of miles before they need to be replaced or completely overhauled (extending useful life). There's your foundation for depreciation estimates.

Put some hack in charge of the SEC who will give an order to suspend trading in Tesla and (after next year) SpaceX shares, and his wealth is mostly gone - he might even face a huge margin call on shares he's pledged for loans.

He's set himself up as openly in opposition to the Democrats and non-reactionary parties everywhere, which means he's easily the biggest target for retribution and legal action when the Democrats retake the Presidency. And he's actually an easy target in that regard, b/c all he has is share value.

I think it’s less so than it was in the 2000s. Most Hispanics are US born now and mostly or entirely speak English

It's why the blatant oil shills over in the conservative movement (like Alex Epstein) are nominally pro-nuclear. They know it's not a thread to fossil fuels, unlike renewables and batteries.

Jax: "You know, what happened to black folks in the past couple hundred years really sucked. I'm going to try and redo all of it so that things turn out great for everyone." *One million attempts later* "Hell, yes, got it! Afro-Futurist Utopia!"

Kung Lao: "My ancestor the Great Kung Lao NEVER EVER loses a battle, certainly not to Goro! He's so cool they build huge statues of him and millions learn martial arts, and they even topple Shao Khan because of it in a coup! Suck it Liu Kang!"

Shao Khan: "I've got ultimate power over time and space! I'm going to make giant statues of myself, and then stage tournaments where I can cheapshot the winners to show how awesome I am!"

I'm betting she gets fired next year. Ellison wants to make money with his new media assets.
December 17, 2025 at 1:13 AM
Easiest way to crack down on that would be to say that if they have more than 10-12 kids by surrogate, their retirement/estate planning gets thrown out and all assets have to be divided equally between acknowledged kids and those that can also prove paternity.

Outside of a handful of cities, parking isn't expensive - most businesses have their own parking for employees or a deal with a lot. And if like most Americans you're driving a used car, it's maybe about $800/month all expenses of ownership for 1200 miles driven a month. Waymo is much costlier
December 17, 2025 at 1:11 AM
I'm betting Ellison fires her next year. She's good at sucking up to conservative rich people, but David Ellison wants to make money. There's plenty of conservative folks he can try next to see if one of them can find success at CBS.

Seems inherently limited as a market, since most people own cars. Even a self-driving taxi ride is not going to be as cheap as hopping in your own car to go somewhere.

Although Feastbox has them beat. I think it didn't even last a month before going to pieces and shutting down.
