This is exactly what we need. This is it.

"New York City Council member Chi Ossé, a close ally of Zohran Mamdani, is privately discussing a run against House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)"
Scoop: Mamdani ally weighs challenging Hakeem Jeffries
Just talking about a potential campaign could drive a further wedge between Mamdani — the democratic socialist in line to be New York's next mayor — and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)

How come major film studios keep being like Jared Leto may have allegations, but at least he looks weird, stars in box office bombs, and is not a good actor

If it’s purely cosmetic and just a way to burn off low-level resources once you’ve already purchased all the unlockables and upgrades, that’s fine (and a smart way for the game to manage that), I just won’t bother focusing on it.
thecapybaron.bsky.social
So I’ve just unlocked the Dora decor/kudos mechanic in Hades II, and I can’t tell: are there gameplay buffs or bonus story content or anything tied to any of this, or is it all just purely cosmetic? #hades #hades2 #hadesii
thecapybaron.bsky.social
At least in as far as I watched, nope. Seems to be largely the same from a production standpoint, just with Brennan in the chair.
thecapybaron.bsky.social
I know CR is going for "authenticity," but they're also a multi-million dollar entertainment operation. At this point, the unedited livestream vibe is a deliberate affectation. And, at least for me, when combined with the huge demand the show asks of your time, it's a barrier to entry.
thecapybaron.bsky.social
And I've said this before elsewhere, but CRs pseudo-livestream format makes it even more impenetrable to me. Other shows that came after have vastly improved the actual play viewing/listening experience with post-production. Editing, tightening, insert shots, sound, art, etc.
CR does none of that.
thecapybaron.bsky.social
Like, even if I were to listen to CR in podcast form, that's still *such an insane time commitment* every week!
I know a lot of people do, but I don't understand how people can keep up with Critical Role weekly, and also have time to watch or listen to anything else.
thecapybaron.bsky.social
Gave the new Critical Role premiere a shot, because I like Brennan, and the fact that it's a new continuity theoretically makes it a good entry point for new viewers, but...
... I just can't get over that show's 4+ hour runtimes, man. Just an absolutely insurmountable hurdle for me.
thecapybaron.bsky.social
Lmao, did they teach you “when in disguise, cover everything *except* your most distinctive physical feature” in seal team 6, buddy?
thecapybaron.bsky.social
Wait. This is also the guy who claims to have killed Bin Laden!
thefritobanditoo.bsky.social
Guys, every person you see on Fox News in a mask is just Robert O'Neill, retired Navy Seal and occasional Fox News contributor. He's the former Antifa, former Gazan, former gang member. His eyes are very unique.
thecapybaron.bsky.social
Idk about the DOJ thing, but the "Jerry Jones petition" part is slop circulating on FB and has been debunked.
Jerry is stupid, but he isn't "players will strike over a halftime performer" stupid.
He works very hard to ensure his players don't play in the Super Bowl, thank you very much.
thecapybaron.bsky.social
A guy who has been given the job of managing a $2 Trillion organization, has none of the skills necessary to do that, but *does* have the ability to do a few push-ups, is insisting that "be able to do push-ups" is the ultimate measure of success within that organization.
It is profoundly pathetic.

pete hegseth's basic idea of the military is that our military would be five times better if every private were five times better at their job. this is the basic idea behind special forces thinking.
theophite.bsky.social
the thing about special forces is:

(a) if the plan only works if 99th percentile guys do it, it is a bad idea.

(b) sometimes you need your 99th percentile guy unexpectedly. if he might be in some random unit, that's helpful. if he's in barracks because JSOC doesn't need him right now, a problem.

"modern-English translation"
It's a 1930's American novel, not fucking Beowulf.
beingliberal.bsky.social
"It can't happen here"-until it does. It's happening here... right now!

In this gripping modern-English translation of Sinclair Lewis's prophetic 1935 novel, It Can't Happen Here, journalist Doremus Jessup watches in disbelief as the USA descends into authoritarian rule under the populist dictator
thecapybaron.bsky.social
I'm kind of kidding but also, having a good YouTube documentary or video essay legitimately helps me not spend my lunch hour doomscrolling, so...
anyone seen any good ones lately?

Weird to see her styled to look older than she is, when she has spent the last 15 years increasingly straining credulity as characters that seem like they’re supposed to be 23.

They’re all realizing that this is not the thousand year reich, this is a dottering old man and a bunch of court eunuchs who can’t stop fucking up, and that they’re going to be held responsible in a way they never considered when they thought Trump was the god-head

I try not to get too It’s Going To Happen pilled, but “in the future when they don’t have TRUMP to fight for them” is the latest example of him seemingly very conscious lately about his own mortality.

Had a dream last night where I accidentally rear-ended an SUV, and when I got out of my car to trade information with the other driver, a kid in the backseat of the SUV shouted at me, with a strong Texas accent, “You made me spill my totchos!”
Which made me laugh which made the driver really mad.

One of the “high risk” categories is obesity so I just show up and am fat. Shot acquired.

lol No worries. Yeah I feel like a lemon twist would pretty it up a bit, but this might just need to be a mug drink to hide its shame.

I was really moved by it in a way few films have done, it was funny and inventive and surprising, it really did make me think about the role of optimism and hope and joy in the face of bewildering and terrible truth, but also, okay we get it, dildos.
