In celebration of the imminent Blades ‘68 campaign, I thought I’d talk a bit about its graphic design.

BUT FIRST let’s compare and contrast with the graphic design of Blades in the Dark, a landmark in the history of RPG layout.

In tabletop rpg design, sometimes gameplay doesn't come from the mechanics we add, but the ones we omit.

A fun fact a lot of people don't know about me is that I studied journalism in college ~ Anyways I always encourage people to practice media literacy (ex; ask "why is this disparate pull quote so far from its context?") when reading ~ So here's a thread of some basics I learned!

Play Worlds Zine Issue 01

The Play Worlds RPG discord has released our first community zine. It's FREE and got some fun stuff inside so check it out. I don't have any submissions, but I did a lot of layout work for it.

You can find additional details and links to the zine in the post (link below).

One of my fave places to hang out is the Play Worlds discord. The good faith discussions between folks with different relationships to the FKR, while putting a primacy on real play experience, has made the output really special. Check out the free zine a bunch of us contributed to.

I contributed to this zine as well!

I wrote Three Daimons of the Gloaming Realm, a short cairn bestiary with some folklore. Check it out, it’s free!

I love the genre mashup. Give me all the Golden Girls/Cthulhus and WWII/Draculas you've got.

But I'm also looking for non-mashups. Sometimes it feels like the industry has an allergy. Westerns without magic. Drama without aliens. Detectives without Cthulhu.
