Bids are now being accepted for the removal and replacement of the brick and granite pavers at the Downtown Mall Crossings on 2nd Street and 4th Street, which will include custom drop inlets, concrete pipes, concrete curbs, and sidewalks. Bids are due on 1/9 and works is scheduled to begin on 2/16.

The stats here are horrific. Deaths caused by vehicles striking pedestrians rose 70 percent between 2010 - 2023. Mostly on multi-lane roads that cut through poor neighborhoods and fading commercial strips. High speeds and larger vehicles are also killing people at a higher rate.

It's appears the City has struck a deal to settle White v. Charlottesville City Council, the lawsuit challenging the legality of the new zoning ordinance. If the City submits requested traffic studies to VDOT, the plaintiffs will drop the lawsuit.
