These two posts were next to each other in my tl and I'm just saying maybe it's destiny, cause you are so pretty and she is pretty hot and maybe you need a random internet matchmaker. Anyway, happy Monday!

Did a test dye today with coreopsis tinctura! I did a tannin step after scouring, then mordant, then dyeing. It turned out to be a really lovely orange, sort of pumpkin-ish. I'm loving it!

I have to run some errands today, and one of them is to find the tamale lady

Mac & Pjörk-bffs. He is gently licking her hoof while she oinks happily. This is some powerful cuteness.

I've been really into Otomi art for a minute, and now that I can dye things bright colors, I think I'm gonna teach myself to embroider these patterns onto them. Let's gooooooooo!

Athena is not stoked about sharing the dog bed with Pjörk. That face! 🤣

And the dyeing is done! I wanted a mint green, and I think it's definitely that. I'm tempted to overdye with a light yellow to make it a little more spring green.
November 16, 2024 at 11:09 PM
It turned out pretty good! I wanted a mint green, and it's minty! (The other color is a batch I did with black beans)

Finally, the dyeing! Made a dye bath with 3% WOF mulberry leaf extract and am heating it for 30m, then I'll check the color.
November 16, 2024 at 8:56 PM
Next up is the mordant bath! Mordants also help bind dye to fabric. I'm using alum (yep, the one used in pickling) as the mordant today. This gets heated to 180F for an hour. The plate is there to keep the fabric under the surface of the liquid.
November 16, 2024 at 5:53 PM
Now that I've removed all the dirt, etc from the fabric, next up is the tannin bath! Tannins help bind dye to fabric, especially cellulose fibers. I am using sumac, which is a clear tannin, so I can see what color the dye is without color from the tannin. Heating this to 190 for 30m.

Starting my scour step for dyeing with mulberry leaf today! Totally gonna post through it, so sorry in advance.
