My Granny had a charlady who used to fill her in with all the local goss. I still remember the heady scent of beeswax and fags after she had left the house. She was like Slash: permanent danger of fag ash falling randomly.

I think he faced such terrible racism and was battered so much by his Dad that he thinks it was a failed experiment. It sounded pretty grim.
