MIPS has this mystical aura about it thanks to Silicon Graphics, where many people just think "Silicon Graphics = fast".

But in this case, the PowerPC is not only faster, it's faster on a clock-for-clock basis.

I put Debian Woody on a Power Macintosh G3 today. Glitchy XFree86 on the on-board video, but fine with a Matrox Millenium.

I'm starting to wonder if I should just put Debian Woody on ALL THE THINGS.

No, it just has a tab you have to very aggresively bend to remove. And these plastics are incredibly brittle by now.

See second picture here. That slot has to lift over a nubbin that is flush with the top surface.

The SCSI card (the legendary Adaptec AHA-2940UW) initially didn’t work. I turned off Fast Boot in the BIOS and then it seemed ok. I guess being fast means skipping some PnP stuff that needed doing. Dumped my drive at a solid 19.5 MB/sec.

The Linux kernel has been trapping and emulating my FPU instructions up until now…

Yeah, I don’t love this but I prefer it to each of them taking it in turns to proclaim how the other should be locked up.

SPI Controllers and SPI Peripherals will typically both contain an SPI Peripheral. Same for I2C.
