Clean-up in AI-sle 5?
Between this and OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar’s “misspeak” on government backstops, there’s been a lotta cleanup this am.

Secretary of Transportation says you should be scared of public transportation. Four million people will ignore him, justifiably, and ride the NY subway tomorrow. 🤡
Duffy: "If you're liberal, they want you to take public transportation ... the problem is that it's dirty. You have criminals. It's homeless shelters. It's insane asylums. It's a work ground for the criminal element of the city to prey upon the good people."

Speaker Mike Johnson: "The reason many people refer to the Bidens as the 'Biden crime family' is because they were doing all this stuff behind curtains...Whatever President Trump is doing is out in the open. They're not trying to conceal anything...Trump has had nothing to hide."

GOP megadonor Griffin: Trump tariffs are unleashing ‘crony capitalism’
President Donald Trump is promising that his economic agenda will empower American consumers and unlock economic growth. One of the GOP’s biggest voices is warning that it’s an insider’s game.

Rueful chuckle over how this trade deal "will cement the relationship ... for many years to come."

We already had a trade deal with the UK and the other countries too. Trump threw them all out the window.

Nobody's going to believe these deals are permanent either. Trump broke that.
More bloviating about a UK-US deal

Fact Checker by Glenn Kessler: Much of what Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, a billionaire and former Wall Street executive, says is economically incoherent and contradictory.

Here’s the view from the billionaire Commerce Secretary, of his vision for the future of America, and the aspirational role we, and the generations to come after, will play.
Lutnick: "It's time to train people not to do the jobs of the past, but to do the great jobs of the future. This is the new model where you work in these kinds of plants for the rest of your life and your kids work here and your grandkids work here. We let the auto plants go overseas."

3. “Beautiful phone call with my friend President Xi, we’re making a deal.”

Check out this video of trump introducing Charles Schwab. If you listen carefully, trump says that he made $2.5B while the guy next to him made $900M. This was posted by Margot Martin, special assistant to trump. The tariff stunt was, at least partially, market manipulation.

Secretary Bessent has made a lower 10yr yield a top priority - yet it’s the Administration’s own decision making that is roiling the bond market and sending rates surging. It’s even more stunning considering Sec. Lutnick’s decades long bond market history with his former firm…

Many Donald Trump supporters “claimed that this was the plan all along, suggesting that dropping the tariffs against the rest of the world would only further isolate Beijing,” but Trump himself gave away the game, @jonlemire.bsky.social and @russellberman.bsky.social write:

Trump’s abrupt pivot from his planned global trade war was touted by allies as grand strategy. The president’s own words suggested otherwise.
