The environments in this game are beautiful. The facial capture really stands out and holds up incredibly well years later, with few games measuring up to its fidelity. Seriously, I think it was one of the first times I was really stunned by the subtle micro expressions shown by the lead cast.

Jon McLaren as Star-Lord delivers a really earnest and at times saccharine performance that hits every beat to perfection. The writing is sharp, witty, and surprisingly deep at times in its themes of loss and found family.

I remember being fresh off the Avengers disappointment when I originally saw the reveal for Guardians and had largely dismissed it. I was surprised when it won Best Narrative at the Game Awards that year and figured I’d give it a shot. I was glad to be wrong about my expectation.

I genuinely think, that if the fallout of the hideous Crystal Dynamic’s Avengers game had not happened, or if this game came out first, Guardians might have been more popular than it ended up being.
