In the words of Pop Will Eat Itself: "In the words of Monty Burns 'Hello Cruel World!'"

No, not that one.
ALTHOUGH... I've just remembered she's also a Rules Official, so there's definitely room for:

"The crime is LIFE! The penalty is:
One shot in stroke play; loss of hole in Matchplay."

Although I expect I'll live longer if she isn't. Also I won't have to scream "GAZE INTO THE FIST OF FENN!" as I punch her in the face, which is probably for the best for both of us.

Think I've probably pushed that analogy as far as it'll go now...

There's a woman at my golf club with the surname Fear, for some reason her emails come through with the display name "FEAR FEAR", which always puts me in mind of the Dark Judges. I've never met her but if she's not wearing a portcullis helmet when I do I'm going to be very disappointed.

Sure but with John Wick, the only distinction is that his dog only dies in the first one. After that, they're all "this is the one Wick kills lots of people in".
February 11, 2026 at 8:06 AM
The only issue I have with the recent ones is I can't remember which one is which, they all kind of blur into one, similar to the John Wick films, although that may be more to do with watching the first 3 back to back.

RW: ETHNIC MINORITIES DON'T INTEGRATE ENOUGH!

National Parks: we agree. We're trying to encourage everyone to visit the countryside more often.

RW: NO! NOT LIKE THAT! TELL THEM TO GO AND INTEGRATE SOMEWHERE ELSE! I'M WALKING HERE!

Errm, who?
February 10, 2026 at 7:38 AM
That seems a little unprepared on the part of the producers!

(I say "early" not wanting to think about the fact we're already half way through) 😔

I feel Jayden's actor needs to settle in to the voice a little (no idea how he manages it without coughing constantly though), other than that, no real notes, they do all seem to be fully formed, which is quite the fear at this early stage.

I don't like cross country skiing and I'm ambivalent about target shooting, but I genuinely think Biathlon might be my favourite spectator sport!

"Excruciatingly". Or, if you must, "Eggscruciatingly".

Is it though? Chances are we'll get Streeting and then I think a lot of people will be wishing they hadn't got rid of Starmer.

The real tragedy is that he'll die before he leaves office, so won't get to see his "legacy" dismantled in front of his eyes.

Didn't think Americans found that offensive?

So explain where I'm wrong, for a western audience to understand. Avoid jargon that a non-Chinese speaker wouldn't understand.
January 31, 2026 at 9:45 AM
Which bit? Written Chinese is the same regardless of which language you speak. The written language was developed long after the spoken languages evolved. Mandarin and Cantonese speakers will read the same sentence, get the same meaning, but just say it out loud entirely differently.

I think they know the usual "fans" are going to hate it precisely because it's different. It's absolutely great though!

My mum gets bloody email notifications every time I comment on something that isn't in a private group!

"Yes, mother, I did call the climate denier a 'c*nt'. Because he is. No, mother I'm not going to my room with no supper. Because I'm 52 and I don't live with you anymore."
January 30, 2026 at 10:54 AM
Mandarin and Cantonese use the same alphabet, the written language means the same, it's just pronounced differently in each language.

Good book that, and the sequel, pretty grim in places.

Also sooo tempting to say "it's Wonder MAN, he's not Jewish!", but people might not remember that reference, so I won't.

The MCU has so much scope to try something different it's depressing to see the number of people that just want the same thing over and over again. Ditto Star Wars, you've got an entire galaxy and thousands of years of history, it doesn't have to be Empire Strikes Back every damn time!
January 29, 2026 at 8:26 AM
I've watched the first 5 in one sitting, it's absolutely glorious! Far from phoning it in, I think Sir Ben is having a great time with it! Although I agree with the Guardian review (4 stars) that the Doorman episode does somewhat kill the momentum.

What is it with mums? After my partner died and I had to move, I set up my living room to make the best home cinema experience (because there was only me there, so why not, I had nothing else?), my mum took one look and started moving everything around the way she wanted it! I was 46! 🤣
