(2/2) One of the themes of #InternationalNursesDay is Nurses' Health and Wellbeing. In Catherine Best’s second blog, she emphasises the importance of nurses making self-care a priority and offers some tips to nurses, managers and leaders.

Loved speaking at one of the regional Queen’s Nurse meetings today about parish nursing. Telling other registered nurses with a huge expertise in various areas about how parish nurses impact whole communities was so encouraging. #partnerships #holistichealth

Not a bad morning visiting York as part of my work with Parish Nursing Ministries UK as I complete the planning of a new parish nursing service in the city. This will be up and running very soon. #everychurchneedsaparishnurse

1st camping trip of the year. Hopes to see the northern lights but it wasn’t to be. Lovely sunset though. Good for self care and to decompress!

Amazing programme supporting refugees who are nurses to be supported in training and use their wealth of knowledge and expertise to nurse here in the Uk! Welcome to each of them into the nursing family.
We recently welcomed participants from the ReSTORE Programme to a Graduation event.

Joined by Local & Regional NHS colleagues, DWP and Voluntary Organisation colleagues who have all contributed to the success of the Programme.

I had the honour of attending the commissioning of new lead #parish #nurse Louise as she takes hold of the baton from former lead nurse Michaela.

Louise is compassionate and caring and will be a huge asset to this parish nursing service.

With ‘corridor care’ back in the news, worth revisiting this piece by Heather Wilson and @mrsbosanquet.bsky.social about the impact on patients and #NHS staff.

My health promotion idea is that people would be fitter and happier if there were more accessible and fun dance opportunities available. Remove the embarrassment/Britishness and everyone (to whatever degree is physically possible) enjoys dancing, and I won’t hear otherwise. Down with treadmills! 💃🕺👏

Yes yes yes! We shouldn’t be having to fumble around in our pockets for change in order to fund hospices and palliative care! Having cared for people at the end of life, it’s one of the most humbling and honourable things to do. Caring for families in the midst of it all is also so important.
Completely agree with @doctoroxford.bsky.social
Palliative care should not have to rely on charity donations. We need a well funded palliative, NHS and social care system so that people don’t have to see this as their only choice.
Please sort this urgently @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social
My direct appeal to @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social
& Keir_Starmer in the light of yesterday's vote on AD.

If they sincerely care about dying people, surely now they will publicly & urgently commit to properly funding our threadbare, neglected palliative care?

Government ‘cracking down’ on exploitation of migrant care workers

Nursing unions have welcomed plans to tackle exploitation and abuse of migrant care workers but want a full investigation into the scale of the problem and better support for those affected.

I qualified in 1998 and we regularly had young adults on the medical take with meningitis (including the sickest and scariest patient I ever looked after when I was an SHO on call)
Now on the medical take we very, very rarely see this disease
