my own trajectory (rough mileposts) was:
1980s: i'll vote dem because the gop is a danger to all esp women
1990s: these dems aren't effective as opposition, it's like they can't See the enemy, but wygd
2000s: maybe we can vote in competent/better ones (lol)
2010s: jfc they're complicit
