I just finished Notorious Sorcerer and it was a hoot. Lots of chaos, lots of magic, fun all around.

But churches were more interested in praying and wishing God would intervene without actually helping at all (not even a sandwich or a coffee or tea). Even though I had been a member and given time and money to them. All I got was prayers.

You know who helped me? The poorest members of the church (without help from the church) who could barely feed themselves offered me a couch and to share their meals. Non Christian friends. Black and minorities focused charities (I still donate to them whenever I can).
