Contradictions abound in the life and times of Pete Hegseth, writes @lylerubin.bsky.social. His harangue at Quantico focused on fat troops and fat leaders, and he waxed romantic about accountability, merit, and high standards—then he introduced Donald Trump.

Largely ignored by a media overwhelmed by daily outrages from the Oval Office, Trump’s destructive foreign policy strategy has some truly serious implications for America’s role in the world.

Trump Is Effortlessly Destroying Washington’s International Influence
With Congress compliant, the Supreme Court complicit, and media corporations compromised, Trump has forged a clear path to international irrelevance.

For at least four years, Pete Hegseth’s association with the crypto firm INX was public, but at some point it seems to have been obscured. In 2019, he was listed on INX’s website as one of the company’s advisory board members. By November 2022, INX had removed the list of advisory board members.

Decades ago, a man named Ivy Lee jump-started the foreign lobbying industry, whitewashing the Nazis, Soviets, and Mussolini.

Nearly a century later, the industry is unlike anything we've ever seen—all of it thanks to the White House.
