Interesting analysis of publication trends pre & post tenure.

#Psychology mirrors natural sciences (and deviates from other social sciences, business, etc, where there are declines post-tenure)

In a study of professors, women got 378 new work requests over 4 weeks vs 118 for men. Women spent more time on service, advising & teaching; men on research. Orgs should track who is taking extra duties & ensure they are rewarded and distributed fairly. www.forbes.com/sites/kimels...

Women are more likely to take on behind-the-scenes duties at work—extra tasks like onboarding or event planning—and it's hurting their careers. Here's how to say no.

TIL that one of the books removed from the Armed Forces Library because it "had DEI" in it is Ben Barres' autobiography. Remember that you can buy and should read this book because Ben was badass and an amazing scientist mitpress.mit.edu/978026253954...
The cover of the book, in greenish blueish color. The title is "The autobiography of a transgender scientist" by one of the most badass human beings that have ever existed, Ben Barres

Setting up an fMRI model and getting hit with collinearity errors? Been there! 😢 Try removing regressors? Orthogonal regressors? Other tricks to resolve collinearity errors? Guess what—those fixes might make things worse. We explore why and propose recommendations.

Friends, this is urgent. Families in Gaza are starving and need our help. I have donated to and been following this soup kitchen since they started. They provide hot meals to thousands & they need funds to keep going. Please consider donating & sharing. gofund.me/aab9459d

4/5 We show that spline-regression / #GAM outperforms other approaches - and that not modelling overlap or duration is not an option (here shown one simulation, but many more in the preprint)
theneurocookies.bsky.social
3/5 One complication: Durations typically come with overlapping signals (in fMRI this is obvious, but also in #EEG!). Deconvolution/TRF-modelling is possible, but can we model duration and deconvolution at the same time?
theneurocookies.bsky.social
2/5 Especially for fMRI and reaction time, e.g. by @jeanette-mumford.bsky.social et al. '23 modelled reaction times explicitly and found many effects!
We argue that duration-modelling could be generalized to all forms of durations and brain related time-series.
