Gonna just leap straight into FROGMAN! Released in 2023, it was directed by Anthony Cousins, mastermind behind the "The Night He Came Back Again! Part IV: The Final Kill" segment of Scare Package. Hey, we know that guy! If you're a big fan of found footage, you'll love this movie for sure!

Here's one I've been eyeballing for a hot minute, it's VIRUS! This delightful trope fest came out in 1999, and is part of the wonderfully strange subgenre of "boat discovery" horror! You know what I'm talking about, where a group of salvagers find a spooky boat and things go bad, people die, etc.

Rounding out this batch of 6 with WEAPONS! Zach Cregger's latest thriller had me curled up in my seat like a scared toddler when I wasn't busy laughing at the surprise humor scattered throughout the movie. I can see how this one would confuse some folks, but I had a great time with it! Eerie stuff!

COMPANION! This has got to be one of my favorites of the 2025, hot damn! Even my father, who I have never known as a horror guy, enjoyed this movie! And how can I blame him? This movie fucks, plain and simple. Don't let the slow start fool you, see this film through to the end, it doesn't disappoint

Clippity clop, DEATH OF A UNICORN! This one wasn't all it was mythed up to be. It needed more, but I don't exactly know how to give it the more that it needs. It's lackluster, plain and simple. But I do think that we need more middle-of-the-road horror movies. -B is still a passing grade!

Now it's FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES! Out of these 6 films, I think this one made me go "Eegh!" and "Ough, oh no" the most. This is a GNARLY movie. I went in expecting a brutal flick, it's Final Destination for cryin' out loud, yet it still somehow surpassed my expectations. Don't trust pennies!

Next up, 28 YEARS LATER! I'm surprised at how devisive this movie is for some people, it's beautifully shot, features some +A acting, and even has BONES! Which will apparently be pivotal to the sequel! Jokes aside, this an emotional story about having to grow up before your time, and it hits HARD.

I'm 11 movies behind, so let's hit it! Starting off with JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH! Far from the weakest member of the franchise, but not reaching the heights of the best. It's entertaining enough to make up for it's faults of lukewarm pacing and the occasional flat performance. Dinosaurs, tho! Yay!

My gravest apologies, my return was waylaid once more. I'm very behind on my movie watching, but we're gonna change that! The triumphant return starts now with a review of not one, not two, but SIX movies! Back from the dead, baby!

Wrapping up the Week 22 two parter with THE THAW! To be totally honest, this movie is carried by the innately horrific nature of its concept. Parasites are one of the primal fears ingrained into our very nature. I bet you can feel it now, that movement beneath your skin, the fear that it's alive...

Kicking off the Week 22 two parter with FEAR STREET: PROM QUEEN! Now, let's get this out of the way. Compared to the other Fear Streets, this one comes in last place. It doesn't exactly capture me like the others do. However, great effects do certainly help it from being completely mid!

Hey there buds. Sadly, ol' life has once again gotten in the way of another review. However, we've done this song and dance before! Week 22 will be a DOUBLE REVIEW to make up for missing Week 21! And this time, my teen niece will be along for the ride! Now I just need to figure out what to watch...

Running a little behind with this one, for Week 20 I've got LEVIATHAN! And if I'm being honest, this one didn't thrill me. The first half plods on at a sea slug's pace, and the slightly more exciting second half flounders out by the conclusion. Spoilers ahead if you still want to watch it...

Shush, it's Week 19, and it's time for the terrific & tense America remake of SPEAK NO EVIL! Fun fact, my mother refuses to watch this one because she doesn't want to have James McAvoy ruined for her... again. Split sure was a fun ride, eh? McAvoy is a BEAST in this film, too! Just a different kind.

And for Week 18, we've got UNTIL DAWN! If I'm being honest, this one was pretty lukewarm for me. It wants to be a big budget tribute to the horror genre but ultimately muddles out into just above a good B-movie. An A minus movie, if you will. But that's not to say I didn't have fun watching it!

If you're at all familiar with the works of artist Ernie Barnes, you'll see just how his work influenced the cinematography of this film. His famous painting "The Sugar Shack" feels like a direct influence, that same energy and soul captured live through performance and camera work.

In order to make up for missing Week 17, I went to my local theater and saw SINNERS! And if you have any love for cinema, horror, or the blues, I highly encourage you to go see it too! Once again, I am reminded why I love the art of film. See this on the biggest screen you can find, you'll thank me!

For Week 16, I had my mother pick a movie for us to watch, and she happened to land on NEVER LET GO! This one is really devisive amongst critics and audiences alike, so now I get to throw my humble hat in the ring. My big, controversial, fiery verdict? It was okay. There, I said it!

Coming in a little late with this one, for Week 15 I've got THE MEG! If you can't tell by now, I love a good creature feature and this one certainly doesn't disappoint. It's like if you took a classic B-movie from the late 80s and cranked the budget up a few hundred million bucks, and it shows!
April 16, 2025 at 8:19 AM
I couldn't make it to the theater for Week 14 but I am nevertheless so happy with what I found tonight!
SLAY was released in 2024 and directed by Jem Garrard, and it's a surprise hit considering that it's a Tubi original. Don't sleep on this one, folks! From Dusk Till Dawn meets RuPaul's Drag Race!
April 9, 2025 at 4:47 AM
After Week 12 left a bad taste in my mouth, I decided to head back to the 80s for a classic. It's MANIAC COP! Released in 1988, directed by William Lustig, and starring the powerhouse duo of Tom Atkins and Bruce Campbell, this one is as entertaining as it is 80s! I love a good time capsule movie!
April 1, 2025 at 2:22 AM
A little late with my review for Week 12, we've got another double feature with PIRANHA 3D and PIRANHA 3DD! These certainly are movies, I'll give them that before I rip into them. I'll always respect that movies are hard to make and require huge effort on all sides to even see the silver screen.
March 26, 2025 at 3:05 PM
Trying out something a bit different for Week 11, today we've got THE CLOVEHITCH KILLER! Directed by Duncan Skiles and released in 2018, it tells the story of a young man who thinks his dad might be a serial killer. And that's all I will say on the plot, give this a watch yourself, it's worth it.
March 19, 2025 at 3:34 AM
Now for the main event of Week 10, it's WAXWORK! What a movie! Directed by Anthony Hickox, director of the wonderfully infamous Hellraiser 3, this one is a jewel of late 80s schlock. The effects, while exceedingly suspect at most times, are goofy and endearing. I need a copy for my DVD shelf!
March 12, 2025 at 5:17 AM
This week is a bit of a double feature. Starting off with THE DEVIL BELOW, this one isn't my favorite. Directed by Brad Parker and released in 2021, it's disappointingly lackluster. After watching it, I decided to find a different movie to review, and that's how we ended up with this double feature.
