A home for spine chilling terrors and whimsical daydreams. Short stories, horror movie reviews, and musings from your Friendly Neighborhood Horror Fan!
I initially wanted to give this movie a 6.8/10, but had to bump it up to 6.9/10 (nice) because you've gotta honor that great philosophical question.

In all honesty, it's a slow burn found footage cryptid film, and it's not gonna be for everyone. But for freaks like us? We'll always jump for joy!

Frogman is a great character study as well as a solid found footage horror. I especially relate to Dallas, the burned out loser desperately clinging to his goal of becoming a great filmmaker. This movie also posits the greatest philosophical question of the century...

Does Frogman FUCK?

Cinema.

If you want a solid monster movie featuring body horror, reverse cyborgs, and Jamie Lee Curtis doing her best, give this movie a watch. Just make sure your microwave isn't watching, don't let it get any ideas!

8/10. An essential late 90s horror flick that deserves a reappraisal. Spooky boat movie!

Ghost Ship, Deep Rising, I'd even count Leviathan as boat discovery horror. Tell you what though, Leviathan has nothing on this movie! It loves it's practical effects and gladly shows them off! Even when things get digital near the end, it still looks pretty good! Not bad by 1999 standards for sure.

And that's 6 movies down! I believe I need 5 more horror movies to be fully caught up, but I'll do my best! It's all downhill from here, let's make the second half of 2025 count!

2. Weapons. A fantastic twisting maze of conspiracy and tension, keeping the viewer locked in, looking for any clues or hints. Zach Cregger has a long, illustrious horror career ahead of him. 9/10.

1. Companion. Truly one of the most well written and directed movies I've seen. 10/10, no contest.

Time for the final ranking and rating of all six!

6. Death of a Unicorn. Could've used more. 5.5/10.

5. Jurassic World: Rebirth. Good action, meh movie. 6/10.

4. FD: Bloodlines. I still don't trust pennies. 6.8/10.

3. 28 Years Later. More like 28 inches later. Emotional and heartfelt. 8/10.

Rounding out this batch of 6 with WEAPONS! Zach Cregger's latest thriller had me curled up in my seat like a scared toddler when I wasn't busy laughing at the surprise humor scattered throughout the movie. I can see how this one would confuse some folks, but I had a great time with it! Eerie stuff!

COMPANION! This has got to be one of my favorites of the 2025, hot damn! Even my father, who I have never known as a horror guy, enjoyed this movie! And how can I blame him? This movie fucks, plain and simple. Don't let the slow start fool you, see this film through to the end, it doesn't disappoint

Clippity clop, DEATH OF A UNICORN! This one wasn't all it was mythed up to be. It needed more, but I don't exactly know how to give it the more that it needs. It's lackluster, plain and simple. But I do think that we need more middle-of-the-road horror movies. -B is still a passing grade!

Now it's FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES! Out of these 6 films, I think this one made me go "Eegh!" and "Ough, oh no" the most. This is a GNARLY movie. I went in expecting a brutal flick, it's Final Destination for cryin' out loud, yet it still somehow surpassed my expectations. Don't trust pennies!

Next up, 28 YEARS LATER! I'm surprised at how devisive this movie is for some people, it's beautifully shot, features some +A acting, and even has BONES! Which will apparently be pivotal to the sequel! Jokes aside, this an emotional story about having to grow up before your time, and it hits HARD.

And that's 22 weeks down. We're almost to the halfway point! Maybe I'll even do a little retrospective on the movies from the first half of the year, possibly even a tier list. It's fun to look back at everything I've watched so far!

See yall soon for Week 23!

But I digress. I feel as if this film relies so heavily on the terror of the concept that it falls short in every other department. Respect to all the actors, I just feel like this whole thing was undercooked.

I give it a 4.9 out of 10, I'd be willing to show it to pals just to watch them squirm.

I give this a firm 6 out of 10. I wouldn't mind watching it again, but I'm also not going to be very invested either.
June 3, 2025 at 3:38 AM
Let me be clear, I don't hate this one, but I think it misses the mark compared to the previous three. While the last 20 minutes were pretty good the rest was meh. But I will say this, the practical effects were friggin sweet! Hope ya like dismemberment, this film is stuffed with severed bits!
June 3, 2025 at 3:37 AM
Overall, I have to give this movie a 4 out of 10. There are better oceanic terrors I could be watching, so there's no reason to rewatch this one more than once. But hey, at least it's not PIRANHA 3DD!

20 weeks down, 32 remain. Fingers crossed I can get back to the theater soon!
