Since the drought of 2012–16 is considered one of the hottest and most intense on record in a long line of droughts documented since 1841, my opinion is that piss-poor planning based on "it might not be so bad" is still piss-poor planning.

The "we had no idea" defense isn't defensible.

Major statewide droughts impacting this region occurred in 1841, 1863–64, 1924, 1928–37, 1950s, 1976–77, 1986–92, 2007–09, 2011–17, 2020–22, and most recently 2024–25.

Seems like something you'd plan for.

What I'm saying is that the degree of authoritarianism doesn't change the fundamental nature of coercive power.
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
Now... don't be dissin' an author's ability to provide for their families for the next 75 years. ;)
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
And I'm a "all government is authoritarian in nature so I'm for the least we need to get by" kind of guy.

I'm a former anarchist that, after some 60 years, realized that there will never be a world without government because some "government" will exist regardless of what you call word you call it.

As a person who lives in a world with 195+ countries, I accept there will be borders.

When does personal responsibility kick in. Yes, I feel some empathy for a woman that does that but, once again, if they are here illegally then have committed to an action that they knew or should have known could result in consequences they may not like.
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
I have no empathy for people that knowingly break a law and think they will, somehow, not be held accountable for breaking the law.

Even if I don't necessarily agree with the law in question.

I'm just wondering where this "there are 15 million jobs waiting" thing comes from since the estimated number of illegal immigrants currently employed in the U.S. is around 9.7 million as of 2023 and the estimated number of illegal immigrants is over 15 million.

Still would prefer legal immigrants.
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
The total number of agricultural workers in the U.S. is around 2.5 million. Legal immigrants with work authorization make up an estimated 26% of the hired crop farmworker labor force in the U.S. Around 50% are illegal immigrants.

Seems like we need more legal immigrants with work authorization.

That was a paintball launcher, not a firearm. And you're still missing my point.

Now, go away please. I'm done talking to you.
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
Your missing my point. Every legal challenge will eventually hit the top tier of the Great Law Priesthood whose decisions depend on who is sitting on the bench at a particular time.

So, the legal or illegal part does, indeed, depend.

That's a non-lethal device, not a standard firearm but rather equipment often used for training, crowd control, or marking targets. Not that it won't put your eye out.

A masked ICE agent pointed a gun at a US citizen because she was filming him.

Another shot a priest with a pepper spray gun because he was protesting.

The priest said “we could hear them laughing.”

Trump is using cruelty and fear to silence Americans and rob us of our rights. We won’t let him.
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
I am weird but I also think that anyone that types a dissertation on social media is weird so...
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
Your fixation on Trump is telling. I don't see anyone's "peace of stability" being trod upon except those that are here illegally and those that want to stand in front of them while they are being removed.

Since we're doing 500 replies in a row, here's one more for me:

Studies and analyses show that political ideology can shape judicial decision-making, especially in politically contentious or high-profile cases. So, legality CAN depend on who is on the bench at a particular moment in time.
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
If you think talking someone to death means you won, then have at it.
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
I'm glad you think so. I'm a citizen. But I'm not your friend or cohort. I don't really care to "chat".
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
Wrong. The courts decide what is legal and illegal. The courts have the authority to decide what is legal and illegal through the power of judicial review and now laws are interpreted can depend on who is on the bench.

This is fact.
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
No. That's not how "legal" works in the U.S.

The Great Law Priesthood gets to make the final call on what is legal and what is not.
theoriginalmax.bsky.social
They're here illegally. They need to move out and go the back of the damned line. Just like I did.
