Graphic of two hands clasping creating the shape of a heart in the background on a solid dark blue image with text in the foreground. Text reads "Changes to legislation must be rooted in the conclusions of the Independent Care Review and the voices of those who have shared their stories of care in Scotland. The impact of this legislation will be felt most acutely by children, families, and care experienced adults, so it must align with their lived experiences." Graphic of two hands clasping creating the shape of a heart in the background on a solid dark blue image with text in the foreground. Text reads "The provisions in the Bill must be fully resourced so that children, families, and care experienced adults feel the benefits of the changes. The work to develop this Bill must include a sharp focus on implementation and sequencing, recognising that the burden of delivery sits with duty bearers and the workforce." Graphic of two hands clasping creating the shape of a heart in the background on a solid dark blue image with text in the foreground. Text reads "While this Bill as currently drafted does not fulfil the vision of the Independent Care Review when it concluded in 2020, The Promise Scotland is nonetheless supportive of the main principles of the Bill and ask MSPs to support it at Stage 1. In addition, we urge MSPs from all parties to commit to the further legislation that will be required to keep the promise, in particular to ‘declutter the landscape of care’." Graphic of two hands clasping creating the shape of a heart in the background on a solid dark blue image with text in the foreground. Text reads "The courage of the children, families, care experienced adults and members of the workforce that contributed to the Independent Care Review and since 2020 must be matched by the courage of decision makers and politicians who have the power to implement the required changes."

Today, the Scottish Government released the latest data on education outcomes for children in care. Our Chief Executive, Fraser McKinlay, shares his response.

Read the full statement here: ow.ly/g6Ty50WLZCc
Statement from Fraser McKinlay, Chief Executive of The Promise Scotland addressing the most recent publication of data on education outcomes for children in care in Scotland. Graphic text reads "Every year, at key points, Scottish Government releases data that tells Scotland something about how well its children and young people are faring. This is the time when the focus is on educational outcomes of the children who experience Scotland’s ‘care system’ - and the stats make for difficult reading. The Promise Scotland team will continue to push for the changes needed to make sure children with care experience receive the same access to education and opportunities as their non care experienced peers. We will work alongside everyone committed to realising the ambitions the promise so all children can realise their full potential."
