Apparently I've never done an intro post.

Hi, I'm an amateur bloggist at www.thepuddingblog.blog at least when life allows me. I mostly write about #comics and international television. Lately I've been preoccupied with mental health (in my life and on the blog).

Constructive feedback welcome

It's as simple as ABC:

A - always
B - read
C - Sottile

(I hope you weren't expecting an acronym)
If you can believe it, January 1, 2026 marks ten years since the armed takeover of Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. For Portland Monthly, I wrote about how the ensuing decade was dominated by anxious men and a culture of lawlessness.

The wildlife refuge occupation set the stage for Trump, January 6, and so much more.

C-3 went into effect today, meaning I (and people like me) are officially Canadian (but for the paperwork).

I'm writing a comic script about the history of Canadian citizenship law in general & how it pertains to my family. Maybe it will see the light of day one day.
Change to citizenship rules in 2025 - Canada.ca
Bill C-3 changes the first-generation limit for Canadian citizenship by descent. Find out who is affected and how the law impacts citizenship eligibility.

Very quick comic to thank you all for supporting my charity efforts this year, and in typical ZT fashion some thoughts to go along with it. There’s so much more to say but this’ll do for now :) thank you everyone

being primary caregiver in a neurodivergent household, I've gotten very good at knowing when to ask the question "do you mean to be [rude, angry, scared, etc] right now, because that's how it's coming across?"

People: wow, 2025 sure has been a shitty year.

@bleats.by86400.today is carrying on my tradition of posting this still from The Hebrew Hammer as a service to non-Jews who want to avoid awkwardly asking about chanukah plans after the holiday.
I’m going to spare @thepuddingblog.blog from perpetuating this extremely long running gag past the point where he thinks it’s funny

I don't get out much. I saw Sinners on the in-seat screen on an airplane. I think about it every few days. I can't remember the last time I watched a film where I had that reaction while also thoroughly enjoying the film, let alone one which was also popular. (Imagine if I saw it in a theatre?)

websearching for superheroes who don't wear costumes in response to a query from the gothling. Unsurprisingly it was all SEO crap, but one included Srinivasa Ramanujan and as impressive as the man is, that's a ridiculous inclusion.

My Twisted Eating Disorder finally came in to the library! So excited for the latest chapter of Nagata's very blunt memoirs about her ailing mental health. Although I do hope this series stops for the right reasons one day.

My chore watch recently has been a documentary series about Canadian history which includes actors reading letters in costume as important people and I'm struck by how many figures in early Canadian history got stranded on Atlantis looking for a ZPM.

only just learned about @mnystudio.bsky.social (thanks to the stamps). His Haida Manga is just gorgeous, I just wish I had an easier way to see it all laid out full size. Here's a link to an article about it, because I can't describe what I mean in a bleat.
Tradition and innovation combine in Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas’s Haida manga - Quill and Quire
What is a “Haida manga”? It’s been a decade and a half since Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas published the first book bearing this evocative epithet, and the landscape of graphic novels has continued to ev...

Leah is a fantastic reporter in terms of the subjects she chooses, the research she does and the writing that comes out of it. She never loses the humanity of her subjects, even when they're awful people, while also calling out their bullshit as bullshit. The media needs more like her.
On the day that @opb.org CEO Rachel Smolkin posted this video, saying OPB’s funding gap of $5 million was closed, I was also told by the Chief Content Officer that Hush was canceled. Eighty percent of my income, and my health insurance - gone. I was given no reason for the cancellation. 1/x

Watching Million Dollar Secret, but only because Peter Serafinowicz is giving the comedy performance of a lifetime and the contestants are oblivious to it.

FYI: the blog has a redesign. This comes after making it officially dormant, but I always hated how it looked so I'm glad to improve it.

One of my better unused ideas: a friend had recently joined a band, but things were tense bec/ they kept arguing over the band name. I suggested Impending Breakup over Artistic Differences (w/IBAD or The Impending Breakup as short versions).

My friend liked the idea, the rest of the band nixed it.

When I was 7 I took a tour of Marvel comics' office in NYC. They used to do tours once a week. There's two things I remember vividly to this day:

1. The printing process (at the time) shown w/ a page and a cover along the way. First the lines, then the yellow wash, then two layers of color… (1/2)
