I was looking at my mom’s Facebook account just now for reasons. Every third post was a sponsored post that seemed to claim that either diabetes or dementia was curable in hours with something that looked like turmeric.

Facebook is a machine for advertising to idiots, apparently.

The National Park Service removed signs referencing slavery at the President's House site in Philadelphia this week, in a shameful attempt to erase important national history.

But the site from which the signs were removed is right on Market Street. It occurs to me that the Philadelphia city […]

Found this book about conservation and preservation of platinum and palladium prints from a mention on Mike Ware's site. I mention it only because there's an article about Irving Penn's process and it's insane. He produced six negatives to get a single print. No digital negatives back then […]

This sucks. I love going to Wegmans. They're the only place around here that stocks Vernors’ Ginger Ale. But I'll be damned if I'm going to patronize a business that uses this technology on its customers. Fuck Wegmans.

Is Wegmans collecting shoppers’ biometric data at its Philly-area stores? The company won’t say.
The Rochester-based grocery chain says it uses facial recognition surveillance in a handful of states, but wouldn't confirm whether its suburban Philadelphia stores are on the list.

Not having any luck printing kallitypes today. First pair I screwed up the borders and missed part of the photos. Second round the sensitizer was diluted with some water I didn’t completely clear from the beaker. Fuck it, I put everything away. Prints will happen another day.

I posted this on BlueSky in response to a post about say how old you are without saying how old you are.

I remember running out of things to read. We would go to the library regularly, but once I finished whatever I took out, I would scour the house for other things to read. I read newspapers […]

Open tab time: in honor of 200 years of photography, here’s an article by Bill Jay, dead photographic writer, about how photographers died in the process of making photos in the 19th century. It's a PDF. Enjoy!

It’s pictures.

Took the Pentax 17 out this morning with my 3D printed turntable attached and shot a bunch of *-tychs. Looks like they came out. I’ll scan them this afternoon.

I used to ask people who the most important band in history was. They would usually answer with The Beatles or Bill Haley or something.

The most important band in history was The Plastic People of the Universe. Their arrest by Czech authorities led to the formation of Charter 77.

Today I’m trying platinum toning on kallitypes. Bostick & Sullivan recommend a 15% hypo fixer for when you pull the print out of the toner, 3 times their recommendation for straight kallitypes. I mixed 10% and a straight Kallitype without toning faded with a minute in fixer. Oops. Toned was fine.
