From her introductory scene, Glinda never needed a scapegoat in order to be loved, sure she was patronizing towards Elpheba when they first met (characters are flawed at the start of stories), but she’s not a Regina George, gaining her status by putting others down.

When Glinda joins in with Elpheba’s dancing at the Ozdust, she overcomes the stigma that people hold towards Elpheba for having green skin. . . all without sacrificing her own standing! For the rest of the first movie, no one cares that Elpheba has green skin, and everyone still loves Glinda.

The justification for Elpheba not wanting Glinda to tell the truth about her, Oz needs a villain so that Glinda can be the hero, makes sense as Elpheba being jaded and falling to the wizard’s perspective, but it misunderstands the lesson of the first part of the story.

The flashback is an interesting inclusion, because my read is that Glinda’s desire to learn magic and help people is earnest, and she’s stymied by never getting any support, not from her parents, not from Morrible, and not from Elpheba (until a bit at the end).

GNC means they don’t conform to the expectations of their gender, which can be pretty broad. If they’re non-binary, then they don’t really have expectations to not conform to. I worry that when people say trans and gnc, they mean not conforming to gender assigned at birth

And Cloud is like “Hmmm, yes that makes perfect sense.”
