Both my dad and my beloved dog died in the fall--2020 and 2022, respectively--so it's not my favorite season in the way that it once was, but autumn still has vacherin mont d'or going for it. 🤤

I am building a class in World Lit around Alexander Bedward, re: the Prince Far I song, and I had no idea how deep the well was. There are like a million recordings of “Dip Dem Bedward,” spanning decades. A very fun rabbit hole.

In the Prince Far I version of the story, Bedward waits to be raptured from the tree and winds up jumping off a building and breaking his neck. Which I guess mythologizes him more effectively than the truth: after God fails to rapture him, he climbs down from the tree and goes home.
