Mississippi’s oldest synagogue was burned in an arson attack this weekend
Sunday January 11, 2026 Mississippis Oldest Synagogue is attacked. Beth Israel, founded in 1860, was burned in an arson attack, the suspect has been arrested and is currently in a hospital for burn injuries. The FBI and Jackson Fire Department are investigating it as a hate crime. The fire was started in the library and destroyed two Torahs and damaged five Torahs in other rooms. A Torah that was rescued in the Holocaust survived due to its protective glass case. In 1967 the synagogue was bombed by the KKK as the Rabbi was outspoken against racism and segregation. The congregation has said they will hold services next week but don’t know where...

Sunday January 11th, 2026 ICE not Welcome At The GOLDEN GLOBES Mark Ruffalo, Wanda Sykes, Natasha Lyonne, Jean Smart, and Ariana Grande wore black and white pins protesting ICE. Some said "BE GOOD" in reference to Renee Good who was murdered by ICE, and others wore pins saying ICE OUT. The idea for the pins was a collaboraton between Working Families Power and Maremoto. Hamas announced it will dissolve its government and allow an appointed technocratic leadership committee to govern Gaza when they're chosen. This phase 2 of the peace plan is being honored despite Israeli troops shooting three Palestinians today, and over 400 since the ceasefire. January is the coldest month of the year and many Palestinians are living in makeshift tents as buildings damagea by Israeli strikes are collapsing as water and cold further destabilize damaged structures. Death toll in Iran has passed 500 as protests continue to spread. But the internet shutdown has made news slow to come out if at all.

Today the US launched Strikes in Syria against ISIS, used troops to bring an oil tanker to Venezuela's interim president Rodriguez while Trump mused getting opposition leader Machado's Nobel Prize (which the Nobel Institute says can’t be transferred), publicly said he’s weighing or stlikes in Iran as protests continue, and continuing to say the US will take Greenland. NATO is making plans for what to do if the US goes after an ally’s Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead died today at 78.

Friday, January 9, 2026 New York, California, Minnesota, Illinois, and Colorado won a temporary victory as federal Judge Arun Subramanian stopped Trump’s order to freeze $10 billion in federal services for the Child Care and Development Fund and smaller grants. 83 members of the House of Representatives also sent RFK Jr. a letter saying this proposed funding freeze is unconstitutional and counter to Congress’s appropriations. "That's fine, dude. I'm not mad at you." - Renee Good's last words "Fucking bitch.” - ICE agent Jonathan Ross's first words after killing her. New video shows the point of view of the officer. Russia used a nuclear-capable missile in Ukraine near the Polish border in a clear warning to EU allies supporting Ukraine. Protests in Iran against the Ayatollah continued. The protests since December have killed at least 65 people, but internet and telephone networks being shut down have slowed news from spreading.

Thursday January 8 2026 2x impeached, 34 time felon says: "My own morality. My Own Mind. It's the only thing that can stop me" - Trump responding to if there were any limits to his powers. Meanwhile the people and congress had other ideas. The House of Representatives defied GOP leadership with Democrats leading an effort to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies and being joined by GOP members from swing states. Meanwhile in the Senate, a few GOP members broke with leadership to join Democrats calling to debate a war powers resolution to limit Trump’s military force in Venezuela. Rand Paul was the only GOP sponsor saying "bombing another nations capital and removing their president is an act of war, plain and simple” Demonstrators nationwide protested ICE after they murdered Renee Good. Late into snowy night neighbors came out in solidarity. The FBI is trying to withhold evidence from Minnesota law enforcement. Meanwhile ICE shot two people in Portland, further escalating calls to end ICE. Anti ICE protests and vigils are spreading.

Ice murdered 37 year-old mom Today in Minnesota ICE murdered Renee Nicole Goode a 37-year-old mom to a six year-old boy. During a confrontation with the community, she was told to move her car and as she did, an agent went towards her car, attempted to pull the door open, and as she turned her vehicle away an ICE Agent shot her in the head causing her to go limp and the car to accelerate and crash. ICE denied medical access and neighbors who witnessed and filmed the encounter, tried to intervene while yelling for ICE to leave. In the glove compartment of her car she had stuffed animals, and her wife was with her when she was shot. Trump officials are saying ICE was doing self-defense, but eye witnesses and video show they’re lying trying to cover it up. ICE later pepper sprayed near a school, causing a lockdown and citywide schools will be closed due to ICE, Minneapolis mayor, Jacob, Frey at a press conference said to ICE “get the fuck out of Minneapolis” Thousands braved the snow for a vigil and anger at ICE is high.

Warren is one of the smartest senators and as a lawyer knows the ins and outs of procedure better than most. I was a delegate for her in 2020, she’s always the one with plans. So yeah I want that energy I put into her campaign for months from her in the Senate.

Dr. Sean O’Leary of the American Academy of Pediatrics criticized the action which is not based on data saying “literally children’s health and children’s lives are at stake” Vaccine rates have been dropping and childhood deaths due to preventable illnesses have been going up. After GOP funding cuts today was officially the last day of the corporation for public broadcast. Local radio and TV stations will have to find outside support. From 1967 to today they supported over 1,500 local stations and funded programs like Seasame Street, which will be now under PBS. Trump’s Kidnapping of Maduro lead to NATO allies critizing the US at an emergency UN Meeting. Danish PM said if the US similarly tries to takeover Greenland it would be the end of NATO.

They were flown to New York to face drug trafficking charges. Trump says the US will run Venezuela on a temporary basis, but their Supreme Court has put their VP Delcy Rodriguez in charge. Colombian President Petro said " A clan of pedophiles wants to destroy our democracy. To keep Epstein's list from coming out, they send warships to kill fishermen & threaten our neighbor with invasion for their oil"' VP Rodriguez called the US actions an “illegal and illegitimate kidnapping” The UN Secretary General called it a “dangerous precedent” and the UN Security Council is planning an emergency meeting. US Gen Dan Caine said the military practiced the maneuvers for months, and Sen Warner said there were no conversations with congress about it or what’s next.

Friday Janvary 2nd night slash early Jan 3 US bombs Venezuela's capital Caracas At about 2am local time at least seven bombings were heard and low flying aircraft and helicopters were seen. The US Federal Aviation Administration shortly after 1 am gave a "Notice to Airmen" warning all commercial and private pilots that all airspace above Venezuela and Curacao was off limits “due to a safety-of-flight risks associated with ongoing military activity” The Pentagon refused to comment and sent press requests to the White House. The Venezuelan President Maduro said " People to the Streets! The Bolivarian Government calls on all social and political forces in the country to activate mobilization plans and repudiate this imperialist attack!” The US Congress has not declared war. However since September Trump has ordered 35 boats bombed, seized oil tankers, and last week the CIA bombed a Venezuelan dock. On social media, Americans are outraged.

Friday January 2, 2026 A sick start... New York has Record-Breaking Flu Hospitalizations, as Nationwide Flu Cases Spread in H3N2 variant subclass K. CDC data showed nationwide ~ 90% of flu cases are subclade K which was also behind a spike of flu case in Canada, Japan, and the UK. RFK Jr's anti vax advocacy hasn't helped with only 42% of Americans vaccinated despite all medical groups and the CDC recommending it for most everyone 6 months + older. There are flu treatments including Tamiflu and Xofluza but they need to be taken early in an infection and many people don’t know about it or have access to testing or a perscriber to get it in time. Elon Musk's Grok Al floods X (formerly Twitter) with child pornography, sexualized photos of women, and other votent images it has generated.

While Democrats held a 43 day government Shutdown in 2025 that ended with the promise of a vote, that vote didn't get enough votes so the GOP cuts went into effect today. Congress could still act before the January 15 open enrollment window closing, but it is unclear if they will take the issue seriously enough to act. Wednesday December 31 2025 we survived 2025! A federal court ruled Trump had to return command of California National Guard troops to Gov Newsom. At the same time Trump announced he will abandon effarts to deploy National Guard troops in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Portland. Trump has repeatedly lost in court on the legality of such deployments. Netanyahu is staying at Mar-a-lago to celebrate the New Year with Trump. This is his 5th visit to see Trump in 2025, and he was in Florida for talks on the next steps for Gaza, but no comitments were made In a hearing transcript released today former special counsel Jack Smith said there is “proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election”
