It’s Knozone Action Day #6 of 2025 in Indianapolis. Leave the car at home today, and avoid fueling up or doing yard work today!

IndyGo is a great way to get around as an alternative, and you can plan your trip with @transit.app, MyStop, or Google Maps.

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat
Still think families with kids don’t want to live downtown? They will, if you actually plan for them.

Downtown Vancouver’s 3rd elementary school is opening this fall in Coal Harbour. 3 storeys, 340 capacity (should’ve been more), homes/daycare above.

7300+ kids (0-14) in downtown peninsula (2021).

“Downtown is a neighborhood. It’s many other things too, but it has to be a GREAT neighborhood. That’s the ‘contract’ we make with people who choose to live there. They’re trading [the big backyard, etc] for ubiquitous and accessible amenities — it’s a bad trade if you don’t provide those things.”

The Valley Neighborhood is extremely proud and thankful to support the work being done by this amazing group of people. It turns out that doing the right thing is, well, the RIGHT Thing TO DO! We should all take solace in that fact.
Thanks to everyone who attended our Greenlawn Cemetery excavation + Henry Street Bridge project public information meeting. I am excited to see where the research takes us in the next few years. In case you missed the meeting, the presentation slides are here: wridinfrastructure.com/june-2024-up...

Last week we hit a new benchmark on the Henry Street Bridge Project excavation - reaching over 1,000 graveshafts identified. Not even 50% through our excavation. On our tiny, 1.5 acre parcel of a larger 25 acre cemetery.

Another reminder that “15-Minute Cities” isn’t a new idea. It’s skilled packaging of an idea that’s been around for a LONG time.

It’s been called “city of short distances.” I used to call it “The Power of Nearness.” MANY names.

More things close by. Less car dependency. More CHOICE.

Common sense.

Also happening today- Routes 2 & 38 now leave from the same bay and are now on staggered departures, meaning less confusion for riders and more frequent service on College Avenue between 10th and 38th!

It’s still a goal of mine to help make this the most famous, well-known and UNDERSTOOD quote about cities in history.

Please share it as much as you can.

Next time someone tries arguing that it’s “social engineering” (cue ominous music) to give people CHOICES to walk, bike & take public transit in their city, tell them that designing our current car DEPENDENCY has been the largest and most damaging social engineering experiment in human history.

Just saying over and over and over again until light bulbs go off in every head in America
Never forget, if you design a city for cars, it fails for everyone, including drivers.

If you design a multi-modal city that makes walking, biking & public transit attractive options, it works better for everyone, including drivers.

INCLUDING DRIVERS.

The “war on cars” has always been a lie.

It matters a lot
As of Friday, the city's Henry Street Bridge project had identified *362* grave shafts on our small, 1.5 acre strip.

View our Updates page for more excavation details: wridinfrastructure.com/archaeology/...

This place matters.

Black & white, rich & poor, young & old - these individuals buried here lived part or all of their lives in this City and deserve respect, to be memorialized, & when we can, reconnected to their names and identities.
