Watch the WWII flying boat the Philippine Mars soar over the Golden Gate Bridge. The 80-year-old plane -- which lands and takes off from water -- made an 800-mile journey to the Bay Area from British Colombia and will retire at the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona. abc7ne.ws/4hUawEy

The last operating Martin Mars has arrived in Arizona. Take good care of her Pima Air & Space Museum!
It's over.

Philippine Mars has just touched down at Lake Pleasant, Arizona.

After 15 years of serving the US Navy and and 44 years of fighting forest fires in British Columbia (then 17 years of rest), she is officially retired.

A fine illustration of the Mirage III 001 prototype of 1956. During its tenth flight, it reached a speed of Mach 1.52, the upper limit imposed by the shape of the air inlets. In July 1957, its air intake was fitted with a pair of movable half-cone shock diffusers known as "souris".
