My twenty-two-year-old daughter got me a heatable capybara. I will treasure it forever. It is so soft and it’s full of flax seeds and you can put it in the microwave and it will act as a capybara shaped heating pad. It’s amazing. I’m in love. 🥰

I am a writer and my husband does not enjoy zombie or post apocalyptic fiction. I would never expect him to buy my fiction. I also write Middle Grade non-fiction at the moment, once again, he’s not a Middle Grade child, therefore, I do not expect him to buy my non-fiction either.

An African American, fourteen year old murderer today has rights and would be counseled and given proper protection and services to prepare for trial. In November 1834, she was most probably tortured into a false confession, given a sham, one or two day trial and then hung without a second thought.

You’ve heard of Elf on the Shelf, but are you prepared for… GOOMBA ON A ROOMBA?
December 16, 2023 at 10:29 PM
Newburgh Telegraph, November 28, 1833 - Apparently London anatomists were willing to pay $100 for deceased murder victims. The much lower $11 price tag was due to new laws that were designed to curb grave robbing/body stealing, which was a big problem at the time. America never made such laws.

All of my writing projects, ever… forever… 😔

So, apparently grifters were trying to peddle their red wine as a preventative for Cholera in 1832 during a pandemic. It reminds me of the whole Ivermectin bullshit at the height of COVID. Grifters gonna grift, I guess. 😂

These piss me off so much… treating flesh and blood human beings like they were lost dogs…

1¢ reward (24¢ today) in 1818, to turn over who was probably a runaway slave…
December 14, 2023 at 5:05 AM
Alexandria Gazette, August 15, 1818 - A disgusting ad to recover a runaway slave, with a starting reward of $30. This just makes me sad. I have to wonder in Nick successfully found freedom (given that he’d been gone for five months, I sincerely hope so) and what became of his poor wife.

See that building at the end of the pier? In 1913, the building collapsed and killed thirty six people. Later, in order to pay for the lawsuits brought against the city, a special 20-cent assessment was levied against each $100 of property valuation on homeowners. That wouldn’t fly today.

The Medical Schools in Central Ohio were paying around $70 per body provided by grave robbers in 1908. So, whoever did this made around $3500. That is around $120,000 in purchasing power today. 🤢🤮😖

I now feel compelled to write a story based on this article. I want to tell a story about them slowly falling in love with one another and rejecting their families and the social standards of the time (1906) and sneaking away to elope and living happily ever after.

Apparently the men of 1905 had opinions about what kind of women were unmarriable. 😂

This is an example of a telegram prank in 1885. It’s pretty funny to think about. 😂

April 25, 1838 - Cincinnati Extra - The Steamboat Moselle Explosion: Apparently censorship was not a thing… Fucking crazy…
December 4, 2023 at 2:28 AM
After the capsizing of the Steamboat Hornet on June 2nd, 1832, apparently the black people (the slaves) weren’t worthy of having their names listed on the victims list… How disgusting is that.

Funny… I find this very photo yesterday after hours of searching through really old newspapers and suddenly today, a youtuber has the same obscure photo…? I don’t believe that this is a coincidence. 🙄

An ad from Bayer in 1945… when I looked at it, I instantly laughed and thought to myself that this would only end badly, but it turns out, a study in 2013 showed that Bayer was actually right.
December 3, 2023 at 2:36 AM
In 1945, an engagement ring with seven diamonds cost $185. That’s approximately $3200 in purchasing power in 2023.

If you saw a want ad such as this today, would you allow your son the opportunity?
December 2, 2023 at 10:46 PM
A want ad to collect on debts in 1859. He’s seeing $1000. It should be noted that $1000 in 1859 is approximately $38,000. Crazy, huh?

Would people be willing to do this today? Unlikely… I would love to speak to some of those nursing students in order to learn about their first hand experiences directly after the fire. Sadly, I doubt any of them are alive today and if they are, they’d be in their eighties or nineties.
