so nice to be in conversation about my new book “Racializing Caste”. You can listen to the podcast below. We talked about the hauntings of German scientific racism in India, the shortcomings of biological anthropology, and the problems of geneticists researching on the so-called “Aryan migration”.

How do colonial-era racial theories continue to influence modern science in India?

In our latest GHIL #podcast interview we're exploring this question by examining new research which traces the transnational connections between Germany and colonial India in the field of racial science. 🎧

@thiago-barbosa.bsky.social ‘s book is truly an excellent introduction to the first female Indian anthropologist, Irawati Karve (1905-1970). Her work challenges both colonial academia and the current Hindutva view. I look forward to learning more.

Writing “Iru: The Remarkable Life of Irawati Karve” was as joyful as it was hard. How can one fit a whole life, with all its contradictions, into a few hundred pages? Now, I am looking forward to talking about our book with readers, friends, and scholars in India.
