“Being open to naming God in new ways based on personal experience was not a luxury, but a necessity if God would accompany people in their changing lives.” - Terence Fretheim, New Interpreter’s Bible Commentary (10 vol set), Abingdon, 2015. Hagar named God El-roi. What would you name God?

Sure we’re big at TPA on helping you figure out what God is calling you to, and doing that in community. But we’re also big on process - the journey. We appreciate the tension between walking in your purpose and the integrity of simply living out love wherever we go!

So about those biblical texts that Paul supposedly wrote that are against women in church and other leadership…it matters who’s speaking/writing, their perspective, and their context. The Bible and our interactions with it become so much more rich when we don’t need them to fit into little boxes!

What we’re up to in the next couple weeks. In our daily Bible reading, 1st and 2nd Timothy give us an opportunity to think about letters written in Paul’s name but not by him and what that means for our faith. Also, how can we pray for and with you this week?

Sometimes we’ve heard about power as a bad thing (and we’ve seen many instances of power being used in the service of Empire). Richard Rohr talks about what happens when we see power as a gift from God:

We’re reading through more of the Pauline/deutero-Pauline letters next week and will be using our voices with many other people to let #MOLEG know that legislators should represent us, not cherry-pick us to represent their interests and ideologies! Join us at MCU on Tues and the MO Capitol on Wed!

A lot going on next week! If you’re not okay with Gov Kehoe’s plan to illegally gerrymander Missouri, please come to the MCU meeting on Tues the 8th at 6:30 and come to the Capitol with us on Wed the 9th at noon to make your voice heard! And gather with us on Sat the 13th to be in community!

This week into next at TPA. There is some heavy stuff going on with gerrymandering. While Jesus was political (not partisan) and regularly stood up for humanity, especially the marginalized, which set him against the Roman Empire. We, too, must stand against Empire for the love of God and humanity!

What’s coming up! This Friday at 5:30pm: the redistricting that’s currently being called for is unconstitutional and authoritarian, and we must do what we can to prevent it from happening. And the next day, the 23rd at 12:30, join us at our gathering as we remind ourselves why we work for justice!
