Realizing that I have 5 students who really benefit from 1-1 attention. Or 1-2 or 1-3. They actually do work in that setting.

Trying to balance fun holiday lessons with need for makeup assessments (lots of absences lately). I think I was successful - but small groups today were a group of one, two groups of three, and a group of 5, which startled the children.

I read this one, too, and it is fantastic!
THE TROUBLE WITH HEROES is one of NoveList's Best Books of 2025!

Congrats to all the creators on this list. So many great titles here for all ages - my to-read list just keeps getting longer !

I am reading this RIGHT NOW and am not sure how I feel about it, but I can see the appeal. Probably would have loved this as a child; I remember enjoying more than one story about dolls/toys coming to life.
#Fiction #HBReviewoftheWeek THE WINTER OF THE DOLLHOUSE by Laura Amy Schlitz ( @candlewickpress.bsky.social ): "A great choice for readers who like dollhouses, English bulldogs, and the intriguing possibility of fantasy worlds that hide in plain sight." www.hbook.com/story/review...

Patting myself on the back for my lesson on the Greek Alphabet + Greek and Latin Roots, which began with me saying "ALPHA. SIGMA. SKIBIDI. 6-7. Since you're all obsessed with these words, we are going to learn the GREEK ALPHABET."

The most popular one right now is erasing the white board at the end of the day, because they've started writing little positive messages for the next day when they do it.
What student jobs or responsibilities do you give in your classroom?

The kids (3rd grade) are drawing/writing what they're thankful for and one of them just asked "can I use the dictionary?" and I'm like OMG YES YOU CAN. I might cry now. @merriam-webster.com

Just had a Teach From Your Best Self cohort meeting, which I LOVE and APPRECIATE, but it also completed my cognitive burnout for the week and now I need a nap.

I love it when Scholastic throws a random extra book in the box!

Our food pantry is empty and I’m stressing out about it. I don’t want any child to be hungry in school. Will you please repost our wishlist for snacks? www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/...

I know I have the education and now I have more experience but sometimes I'm still like "who decided that I'M allowed to be an expert on learning?"

Grading day/conference prep day: a whole day in which I don't have to hear the magic words "6, 7." And yet they're in my head.

It's a little thing, but it's going around and turning the lamps on before students arrive and turning them off after. Especially after school - I usually do it before I sit down or do anything else.
Give fellow educators some inspiration! 💡👇

Man I collected all of the rough draft writing assignments and two of them STILL managed to lose theirs (one other found it in her desk).

Had the follow-up consult from this observation today, and apparently I'm the only teacher really doing small groups, so yay?
So I already knew today that our literacy consultant was coming in to observe my small groups (to give advice/feedback, not to evaluate), but surprise, our principal decided to come in and do an observation at the same time! Agh! But at least I was well prepared.

I’m really glad I wrote this. I’m really humbled by the response it’s gotten. Like I’ve stated, talking about your pain brings healing. Writing this has not removed my fear but it has eased my anxiety. I can breathe now that my pain has been expressed. Check it out if you can.

WHO decided that one of the characteristics of Realistic Fiction is that the author doesn't use I, me, or my while telling the story? Can't a story be both Realistic Fiction AND first person?
