Springfield, Ill., Dec. 13.--[Special.]
The Swiss may yodel for pleasure, but Sangamon county believes in the homely virtue of the hog call. Farmers from all over the country, with a sprinkling of business men of the capital who once were farmer boys tonight engaged in a contest to decide who has the voice best suited to call a pig from his wanderings back to the husks. Learned judges made the decision before 1,500 Sangamon county farmers and their wives, gathered for the annual hog day.
The finals were between Henry Brown of Waverly and Thomas O'Hern of Auburn. "Whoo-woo-woo-wee-y," sang Mr. Brown. "Hey, Pig! Pig! Pig!" called Mr. O'Hern. The judges decided Mr. Brown's appeal was the more musical and likely to bring the porker hot foot to his feed. They proclaimed him the champion.

It is really, really hard to get your head around the raw hubris of the majority. They really will be destabilizing the operating structure of the entire U.S. government. Why? Because they believe they have a better idea about how the past century should've been done.

I just finished Strange Houses. It was interesting. Stronger in the beginning. I'm a sucker for maps and diagrams. Floor plans with secret rooms are to die for.
