Language and Liberation. And pancakes.
Thanks for sharing this. Our school has just undertaken a two year training in SoR for all teaching staff, which is great -- but we have little time to discuss what we're learning with each other and share what we're doing in classrooms. I'm going to check this out!

Wasn't ready for the ableist language right out of the gate, but the rest of it resonates with my values as a teacher of young children. The guilt piece is especially valuable. Our school addressed this at our last PLC. Emotional manipulation by teachers decenters the learner's motivation.

When you wish you could hang out in the hot tub but no one brought their suit.

Well put, with great examples and uncomplicated explanations. In response to your question about "fellow," I think we are already seeing the gendered meaning of the word on the decline. I never hear, "So I ran into this fellow..." but hear it and use it as an adjective often. Wait and see, I guess!

Let's change that. I'll start: In the midst of this massive sea change (can't resist the political!), what are you doing differently in the classroom? What are you ready to cast aside? What resonates with your students right now?

I had the great fortune to see this last fall at the @guthrietheater.bsky.social. Fantastic production. See it if you can!

Language is identity, and identity is political -- it all hangs together!

Cruelty is the currency of this administration. Just sickening.

When the staff PLC announcements now include instructions on what to do if you're approached by ICE at the playground....

Or as they say in Germany, "Du kannst nicht mit den Nazis ins Bett gehen ohne ein Nazi zu werden" -- if you make bedfellows with a Nazi you become one.

We look at 1930s/1940s Germany because we want to be sure we're on the right side of things now. I suggest watching The Lives of Others to see what it takes to stay there. This is a marathon and we cannot do this alone.
