It's Sunday afternoon on the last week of January. Teachers everywhere are planning lessons on the Tuskegee Airmen for Black History Month.

Shortly after the 2016 election I took part in a USCIS training for people teaching citizenship classes. Chatting with another teacher, I described working with my L1 Spanish adult learners, and she interrupted me to ask, "Are they legal??" I've never forgotten that. Bias & ignorance are EVERYWHERE.
This is our new reality in U.S. classrooms. Educators charged to protect and serve culturally and linguistically diverse student communities are asking for their deportation.
