I missed the best bit

It feels a bit criminal to use such fresh cherries for compote, but we needed some to go with the chocolate cake.

Small knife, thumbnail worked really well for these, but they are a firm cherry.

This is just a cherry appreciation account now sorry not sorry

PSA for Dunedin: the Pierce Orchard lapin cherries are peak rn. Some of the best cherries we’ve ever had.

I think my #lemonpig has anxiety issues. We named him Sir Wellie Piggenson to improve his self-confidence.

Last year I drafted a #Wikipedia page for the neglected Nesselrode Pudding. It seems to have become more popular since then! But I didn't publish the page as no photo, and forgot about it. Well tonight (at vast expense...chestnut puree is $15 a can!!!) we dine on Nesselrode Pudding. Yum (I hope)!

@pbtechnz.bsky.social if one identical twin has three arms, shouldn’t the other? (Maybe don’t use AI for your ads, it looks shit)

Ooof that’s a lot of money. Anyone know what it costs to try to get a uk passport renewed in NZ? Or am I never going back again?

Was feeling sad about a Wiki setback and then magically life improved

It’s their very own miniature phone stand - great for the iPhone we all forgot they bought during the pandemic so they could zoom with the neighbours. #SecretSantaAoNZ

What could it be? #SecretSantaAoNZ
December 17, 2025 at 6:43 AM
Oops upside down! No it isn’t tea, dolls, turn it over and open it and see!
December 17, 2025 at 6:43 AM
Bonus #SecretSantaAoNZ opening. The dolls were so pleased to open my gift that I pointed out they had their own to open too. Much excitement!
December 17, 2025 at 6:43 AM
And now the last gift….it’s a phone holder for my desk (I needed one) and it’s been hand painted with a pink Truffula Tree and I ADORE it! It’s perfect! 😍 Thank you so much to my crafty #SecretSantaAoNZ

We open the first. It’s a pterodactyl costume Lego minifigure! I am dinosaur, hear me roar (or squeak or rasp or whatever noise you think they actually made). And the second is a pirate with cockatoo, good for #TalikeAPirate Day #SecretSantaAoNZ
December 16, 2025 at 8:22 PM
Oh the kids are enjoying this…there’s packaging flying everywhere…. And we get through it to find not one gift but three! #SecretSantaAoNZ
December 16, 2025 at 8:16 PM
Oooh the tension #SecretSantaAoNZ The newspaper rips off to reveal….a mysterious brown box!
December 16, 2025 at 8:10 PM
Like half the other excited openers I also forgot the hashtag duh! #SecretSantaAoNZ anyway…we have repaired to the tree for more opening space. We’re going to let the kid dolls do the work
December 16, 2025 at 8:08 PM
I came downstairs on #SecretSantaAoNZ opening day to find the dolls performing some sort of ritual around the tree*. (*Carol singing). 🎶 🎵 I’ll let them finish before we open!

Did not imagine it would be that hard to source! I've added the meaning to the disambiguation page, and linked it to the NZ section in 'Slang terms for money' article and provided the source there. I also added the source to a few other articles that mention "gold coins' in this context
December 16, 2025 at 4:08 AM
Quick trip to the library bookshelves later - how many books did I check to find a source? Quite a few besides these! And I eventually found it in ONE! The Oxford Dictionary of New Zealandisms, thanks Tony Deveson.
December 16, 2025 at 4:08 AM
Fun #Wikipedia diversion! Someone queried the Otago Farmers Market article using the term "gold coin donation" - they can't really be gold can they?! No of course not, its a widely used NZ/Aus term for a $1 or $2 coin...but not covered by the gold coin (disambiguation) page even though in Wiktionary

I haven’t got the salt dough or the glass or ceramic ones out because tile floor (shame I have a lot!). The fairy is circa 1975 school fair. The glitter on her skirt is long blackened! The tiny snowman is meant to be a cake topper and is older than I am, I think.
